Lin TV + Charter = No Deal

I wonder if this effects our market... Suffolk and the Outer Banks have Charter, and WAVY/WVBT would be dropped from those systems.

Probably, at least the outer banks has WITN. Not sure about Suffolk though. Except they can probably get it over an antenna.

Anyways, Charter has been doing this crap for a while. Luckily before it was only with the HD feeds. Here in St. Louis KDNL in HD wasn't on our system until April of last year. Now, they're in an arguement with Belo over the HD feeds for KMOV and took them off last year. Now, I have to watch KMOV in HD over an antenna and it doesn't seem to be any resolution soon.

My advice to people affected by this is to get your antennas out because Charter will not back down in cases like this for a long time.

However since the analog signal would also be affected by this they might resolve it quicker than with their disputes with folks like Belo.

The last time LIN tried playing this game with Cox Cable (forced carriage of WTNH & WWLP, all HD and digital subchannels, plus repayment from the cable company for all involved stations), Cox dropped WWLP from the lineup altogether for northern CT. LIN gave in and granted free carriage of WTNH, WTNH-DT, and their "SkyMax Channel". It'll be interesting to see how Charter handles this nationwide.

Down here in Mobile/Pensacola, it seems that COX has the best terms with LIN's stations WALA & WBPG. In addition to carrying both stations (and being the ONLY cable company in the market besides Mediacom to carry WALA's digital signal) they also carry a Weather Now channel for geared towards the Florida side of the market. Comcast viewers in Mobile have tried again and again to get WALA to put their digital signal on their system...apparently LIN is holding out for the $$$$$ and let's face it....Comcast SUCKS!!! It's a match made in heaven!

Until Feb. 2009.

In all reality, I think LIN's issues with Charter are the beginning of many problems between many owners and cable/satellite companies. A few years back cable companies agreed to carry both digital and analog signals free-of-charge, well, now stations can have multiple sub-channels and that's "taking advantage" of the cable companies.

I think we'll see a lot more of this over the next 8-10 months.

Until Feb. 2009.

Unless you have a converter box or digital TV... you have no problem.

You need a really good antenna to pick up the Norfolk signals from the Outer Banks... I'm at the beach right now and tried getting stuff with a cheap set of rabbit ears with no luck.
