Media General selling WNEG in Toccoa, GA to University of Georgia Research Foundation

WNEG (and Stephens County, GA where Toccoa is located) is actually a part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson market. The station is available as a part of Dish Network's local station package for that market.

No matter where a station is located in the 50 United States, (with the exception of territories and Puerto Rico) it is tied to a particular DMA.

I just now noticed that. I didn't realize what county Toccoa was in when I saw this map.

Still. I can't believe that just the signal from Atlanta can reach most of this huge market. Same for Spartanburg-Greenville whose market goes deep into western North Carolina.

Or maybe there is something I don't know. Just wondering.

WNEG will be making the switch on Wednesday, October 15th, as they will drop CBS programming, and air programming from the AmericaOne network.

They will still have all of their local newscasts, and will add reairs of their local news at midnight.

It is a big loss for the Northeast Georgia region, as it will lose its only source of local network programming (not from Greenville, Asheville or Atlanta).

...and of course, Joe Witte went from the Today Show (and other NYC affiliate before that) to WJLA in DC where he does weekend weather (and fill-ins sometimes too).
