justin2kx 237
Relating to Television itself, I read this comment on the daily nightly, NBC nightly news blog and this was actually interesting to point out. Hi Brian - I think there is tremendous pessimism after seven+ years of a very dark regime, and perhaps some apprehension of what we have yet to learn about what's been hidden (which will begin to come out after the next administration takes over). You can see it in the popular culture ... increasingly gruesome police procedural shows on TV, or else the most imbecilic escapist "talent" competitions and reality shows, which, I hope, are nearing their downward arc. Art mirrors life to a degree, always. We need to focus on the future and what we each can give back to society, and get involved in the political process no matted how jaded we feel. It's about COMMUNITY - small and large! JFK's "ask not" line has never been more appropriate than now. Keep on with your good work. Dave, Fort Wayne, IN (Sent Tuesday, June 24, 2008 7:27 PM) Are you to tell me that because the bush circus runs this administration, given the reality tv craze is on the rise and may not likely to slow down soon (sorry guys) television is shit in general these days? the war is so depressing, the low-brow enterainment to go to is 'idol' and other 'contests'? And during the clinton administration, were there more smart shows back then? Does art really mirror life to many degrees? If so how from a television (and non-television) perspective? IMO, the comment seemed a little bit ridiculous for me. Last time I checked, Bush was not the executive producer nor the judge or the host of American Idol. P.S. Does anybody read the blog? I check in daily, fascinating. http://dailynightly.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/24/1165011.aspx Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4117-half-empty/ Share on other sites
RetroCirq 148
I highly wouldn't think so. Given that under Clinton, despite the fact that there were some smart programming, but the news was pretty much on the verge of entertainment thanks in part to OJ Simpson. Mrtraveler01 738
I highly wouldn't think so. Given that under Clinton, despite the fact that there were some smart programming, but the news was pretty much on the verge of entertainment thanks in part to OJ Simpson. I guess we can blame the declining quality of the Simpsons on the Bush Administration too? I'm only joking. In reality I think TV as well as movies are on the downslide is because they are starting to run out of idea, not because of the government but because the TV and movie executives are no longer creative and thinking outside of the box. Pretty much the only thing I watch on TV anymore is syndicated programs and I think a lot of people out there are like that too. RetroCirq 148
But TV in general is going down the tubes fast.... That is absolutely true...especially with cable TV. The sad thing is, that back in the day, TV used to be about creative people with creative ideas making creative programming in all aspects. News, sitcoms and dramas. Now, people do not hire people only for the purpose of creating great shows, but to get advertisers to buy airtime. Simply put, they don't hire program directors who have backgrounds in creativity, they hire salespeople who THINKS they know what will be the next big hit (for advertisers). To to simply put, it's about the money and hopefully, the future gen TV execs should read this to think about what types of shows could be aired in the future. And besides, Reality TV is good for prime-time, but not good for domestic syndication. [Case in point: Fear Factor] Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4117-half-empty/#findComment-37983 Share on other sites
