Its parent company Liberman Media Group is involve in a lawsuit against its former COO alleging him of not following due diligence in renewing its affiliation with Univision last year. From Puerto Rico: About two weeks ago, it was reported that Teleonce, which went thru a major rebrand four years ago, will go full time independent for the first time in 23 years, disaffiliating from Univision. The network bought WLII-TV in 2002, converting into an O&O and rebranded as Univision Puerto Rico from OG Teleonce. Despite early success in the ratings, it since declined thru the 2010s, cutting back local programming and running more imported network content. Its more infamous moment was when the network shut down its local news department in 2014. The network since sold the station to Lieberman Media Group in 2020, while retaining its affiliation, en route to its 2021 renaming. In turn, WAPA went thru a rebrand in 2007 (from Televicentro) and since then has been the leading local station on the island. Even Telemundo PR, which went trials and tribulations in the 2000s (cutting back local news and programming) has since been reinvested by NBCU/Comcast and solidified into the #2 station, improving local content. Coincidentally, TelevisaUnivision still owns its former sister station WSTE-DT 7.1, which is essentially an informercial station for more than a decade. It used to be a notable local major station for years, first as Rikavision, then Teleluz and later and most famously as Supersiete thru its time. T/U is moving its content to the station starting monday night 7p, with a fuller schedule starting Tuesday with the return of Despierta America to the market. It'll retain its Teleisla local branding at this time. Its schedule is a mix of Univision/Unimas content on a single station. Meanwhile the agreement between T/U and Lieberman (Tele 11) runs out this wed 12/31, despite scrubbing out Unimas content from its local sister subchannel 11.2 earlier this month.
