NewsJunkie247 1 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I was flipping through the channels last night around 11PM and I was very surprised to see Joe Avellar on paid programming on WPXN. It was called MLN News, standing for Mortgage Loan Network and showed Joe anchoring a fake newscast. It was pretty weird to see a veteran reporter from (at the time) the highest rated station in the number 1 TV market on paid programming. I always thought he injected personality and energy into his reports on Today in New York. After they fired him from WNBC, he went to WCBS NewsRadio 880 and it still has him listed on their website as an anchor.
TellyGenic 33 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Joe is still on WCBS newsradio, doing the overnight shift on the weekends.
NewsJunkie247 1 Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 Perhaps he could do some work for CBS 2 News in addition to his work at WCBS NewsRadio 880. He could anchor on the radio a couple of days during the week and then he could anchor the weekend morning news on CBS 2 maybe with Cindy Hsu or Magee Hickey. When he was at WNBC, he filled in on the anchor desk a couple of times and I thought he was pretty good.
TellyGenic 33 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Tony Guida does that - he's on WCBS newsradio and does reports for the CBS Evening News (usually on the weekends). It's a long way from when he was the hot young anchor on WNBC-TV news but he's still out there doing it.
IceManNYR 240 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Joe is now in an ad for Cablevision talking about the switch to DTV.
j.wer 12 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I caught the same commercial the other day, and thought it was a shame (disgrace) he was not renewed by WNBC. He was truly a dedicated professional. I don't understand why another News program did not grab him up.
