TSSZNews 1051
At this point, it's inevitable. We might as well get a thread started. WWL, WDSU are now live 24/7. WGNO is sorta doing live streaming, can't see any indication on WVUE. I personally have a bad feeling about this. What say you all? And while we're on it...how many people here think the RNC will be deserted by the media next week in favor of a media exodus down to impacted areas? I know WCVB in Boston is sending a reporter (odd because WDSU is their sister station) and WTXF in Philly is sending chief met John Bolaris. Here's a link showing all 4 NO news streams on one page: http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/gustav.html I agree the RNC will definitely not be the main story next week (unless they postpone it). The lastest projections brought its landfall closer to New Orleans so this is definately not looking too good. However, the local governments are doing a better job evacuating people this time compared to Katrina. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. tyrannical bastard 3951
WWL, WDSU are now live 24/7. WGNO is sorta doing live streaming, can't see any indication on WVUE. WVUE was streaming yesterday in the same place it re-runs its newscasts, however as of this morning, I haven't had any luck seeing them. Are the stations planning to evacuate again? I would imagine WDSU would team up with WAPT in Jackson or WESH in Orlando and broadcast from there again. Since WVUE has been sold, they are no longer affiliated with WALA in Mobile. I wonder if they have made arrangements with them to broadcast from there if needed. I imagine WWL will either send its staff up to LPB or run coverage based out of Houston or Dallas (Belo's closest stations) WGNO could either team up with WBRZ in Baton Rouge or WLOX in Biloxi (depending on the impact) WLOX's signal reaches well into the North Shore. WDSU has staff in Baton Rouge and is ready to broadcast from there if needed. WWL probably isn't going anywhere, since the Eastbank isn't the bullseye for flooding this time. Plus their transmitter is on high ground in Gretna...on the Westbank. WVUE and WGNO are both on the Eastbank, though their towers are in St. Bernard Parish. Again, flooding concerns are focused on the Westbank, not the Eastbank like Katrina...so they're not going anywhere either. bostonmediaguy 123
WDSU's air signal is being provided nationwide on DirecTV Ch. 361. Anyone know why they were selected over WWL? Frankly, the coverage I have seen has just been a comedy of errors with everyone speaking over one another, live phoners with producers as intermediaries, and audio from the studio since the power is out. Newshawk 2
Juts a note to let you all know that DirecTV has been carrying WDSU nationally on channel 361 since yesterday afternoon. This is in addition to an emergency information channel on channel 363 that has been giving evacuation information and routes. Both channels bracket the Weather Channel on channel 362.
