Police: Arkansas anchorwoman suffers life-threatening wounds in attack in home

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ A popular local TV anchorwoman who had a small part in the Bush biopic "W'' was in critical condition Monday after being beaten in her home, and police said they are investigating possible motives.

KATV anchor Anne Pressly, 26, was found about 4:30 a.m. Monday by her mother, who went to the house when her daughter didn't answer a wake-up call, Little Rock police spokesman Cassandra Davis said.

Davis said investigators are talking to Pressly's co-workers to determine whether she "has had any problems." Davis said Pressly's purse was gone and that robbery was among the possible motives being explored. Davis would not discuss specifics of what the investigation revealed.

Pressly was found unresponsive in her bed and a police report said she was bleeding from her head. Davis said Pressly was in critical condition at an hospital.

Davis said Pressly was stabbed, but KATV cited investigators later in reporting that all of her injuries were from being beaten in the head and upper body.

Pressly appeared briefly in Oliver Stone's new movie about President Bush that opened over the weekend.

She portrays a conservative commentator who speaks favorably of President Bush's "Mission Accomplished" event on an aircraft carrier shortly after the start of the Iraq war. She won the role after being noticed by the casting director when she went to Shreveport, La., where the movie was filmed, to work on a story about it and the city's film industry.

Spokeswoman Kate Hubin for the film company Lionsgate confirmed Pressly's role but declined to comment further.

KATV's Web site notes that Pressly's most notable interview was with Vice President Dick Cheney. Traveling through an Arkansas town, she found the highway blocked in front of a hunting goods store because Cheney was inside. Pressly asked for an interview, which she conducted on the ammunition aisle.

During its 11:30 a.m. newscast, anchor Jason Pederson read a story about the attack.

"We would ask that you keep Anne in your thoughts and, especially, in your prayers," Pederson said.

Early Monday afternoon, a man answering a phone number for Pressly's mother, Patricia Cannady, said the family had no comment.

Anne Pressly has died at the age of 26.

RIP.

This is both tragic and sad.

My condolences to her friends and family.

And to the bastard who did this: I hope you burn in HELL.

Honestly, I am very sad that this story comes to comes to a tragic ending. It's easier to critizice a lot of things, but when it comes to someone that is in the industry...it makes it worse.

My prayers goes out to the people of Little Rock, Ark.

Very True. and It's also a damn shame that her career as a reporter had to be cut short like that.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everybody at KATV, her family, and everybody else effected by this horrible tragedy.

I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but I sincerely hope this deters the primadonnas in training for TV News who want to do it only to be on TV (of which, I assure you, there are MANY) to consider going into another profession, and let people who want to report the news do it.

There are too many people in J-school who aren't pursuing a TV news career because they want to make a difference in the community. They do it for the fame and glamor, and not much else. I don't know if Anne Pressly was one of those people, but it's a little perplexing to me why there's a 26 year old--presumably four years out of college--in market #56. I don't think helping her case was her role in W.

As sad as I am for the loss of Anne, this should draw attention to the stalkers and nutjobs a lot of people on-air in TV face. The people who believe in this profession for reporting will protect themselves better than Anne did. The people who do this for fame will eat the attention up, and end up like she did.

-T

T, please save that for another day. I really don't see how quality of reporter have to with a possible stalker or robbery case . That was really in bad taste and you should get flak for that comment. I understand what you trying to say but it came off as crass comment that was better suited for an another day and another debate all it own.

This is just a sad situation all around. My prayer are with The family and KATV
