...on the local level, that is. A story from DCRTV.com and the Associated Press says that the Fox and NBC owned and operated stations in areas where they share common ownerships (New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Washington, D.C.) will form a news video service in which those stations will share footage, such as press conferences, crime stories, etc. They initially started a test run in Philadelphia, with WCAU and WTXF.

Oh, dear lord, don't even mention that idea commentator12. That would be horrible, not to mention, would the powers that be allow the owners of two of the nation's largest networks, not to mention a slough of cable outlets and other properties, really merge?

Hopefully, they would never merge and the FCC would never let it happen.

But don't you see a pattern here?

First they start Hulu, now they sharing news video footage?

Maybe its just an alliance and it sounds like a good attempt at challenging Youtube, Time Warner and Viacom by competing for content but already Fox, CBS, and NBC U control alot of programming.

I am with you. Hope it does not happen. We may start watching CSI Quahog(Family Guy) or Law and Order, Homer Simpson unit. LOL.

I am FOR it. It is pointless for all of us to show up at the same press conference, all shoot the same video, and get the exact same sound.

The people at FOX and NBC stations will be (and are) rooting for it.

I don't know. If I were a photog at a FOX or NBC station, I'd probably be getting my resume together. The only people who benefit from this arrangement are the bean counters. To me this says fewer jobs available in the industry, less competition, and less choice for the viewer. I would find it unsettling to have to rely on the competition for content.
