El ojo 0 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 This time from it's bureaus. Several foreign bureaus were shuttered along with lay offs in Dallas, Miami, and Atlanta of several long time staffers. Some with almost thirty years with the company! What a nice Christmas for them!
Amra 171 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 With everyday layoffs at WFOR, CBS should do what it did with CBS Detroit and drop the news. Right now, their news should be branded CBS 4 Chit Chat, it's more fluffy than an pancake.
eyewitness_news 5 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 At the rate these layoffs are going, CBS would be this close to selling WFOR.
seriouslythough 0 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 On the topic of WFOR, I knew there was a good reason why they canned Jim & Jade in the Morning. Good thing Maggie Rodriguez moved on to bigger and better better things.
CircleSeven 1960 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Good thing Maggie Rodriguez moved on to bigger and better better things. Even though she is now featured on the network, she is still a CBS Employee. She's no different from when she was a local anchor at CBS 4 and then move to the network and being an anchor on the Early Show. And at this rate, no one is safe from getting the pink slip.

seriouslythough 0 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Not exactly sure, check out this thread: http://packofseven.tv/tvnt/showthread.php?t=4670

I am sure the network is willing to shed employees at the local level, then the national level. Especially after CBS revamped The Early Show this year.
rtmclaug 70 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 It's so sad to see all these people being laid off during the economic crisis. Hopefully, they'll find jobs real soon. I happen to like CBS 4. They have good stories, good coverage, and the largest investigative team in South Florida. I do think their presentation could improve a little. They still have a noon newscast and a 5/5:30 newscast. I know 7 has those news shows in addition to a full hour of 6/6:30 news. The reason I don't like 7 is that they are way too sensationalized in their coverage. Their graphics are too flashy, as well. 4's graphics are fine. Not too flashy, not too bland, just right.
seriouslythough 0 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 We all have our reasons for hating 7. You really don't need one though. I don't want their damn Deco Dayside, save it for 7:30. And speaking of a good investigative team, why would they have let go of Ileana Varela? A video on their site (http://cbs4.com/video/[email protected]) shows her past moments on 10, as well as on 4 (when it was 6 and WCIX). She was also a good anchor, that came as a surprise to me when she wasn't reporting on weekends anymore. Graphics, eh the day they debuted (1/28/2008, I can't believe I have that date saved somewhere) I thought I was watching "Attack of the Times New Roman" or something. They're hit or miss, mostly on the miss side for that ugly font. Oh and good point NTX. CBS had so many failed attempts at breakfast TV in the 80s & 90s that they need good people to keep alive.
