Well it looks like KNSD is up to something. Today, the news at 4pm was broadcast from the same area the news at 4:30pm is usual shot. Also, there was some new desk in that area as well. Hopefully they are prepping the main desk for HD. One can only hope. Sorry, no screen caps of this.

They're back at the main set for the 6pm newscast. I highly doubt that they will be prepping for HD news right now.

Don't look for KNSD to go HD any time soon. The studio space is extremely cramped right now, so it has to work out some details with the owners of the building to fit all the HD equipment in. Essentially the cameras are right in the anchor's face when they are on camera and an HD camera has too big and wide of a lens to work in the space. Also the backdrop and desk are easier to move (in comparison to more elaborate sets), so we may not notice any major difference since the workers can just set it up somewhere else temporarily when the new set is being built.

Yeah, it is so cramped that you can barely walk between the cameras and the desk.

I think that the new KNBC set could work for KNSD. Since KNBC got their new set earlier this year, it is considerably smaller than the previous one and it it something that could work for KNSD since it won't take that much room. Also, that wooden thing or wall behind the desk takes up too much space, if they would get rid of that then they might get an extra 2 or 3 feet more of room. HD news is possible out of that studio, it just requires a little creativity on how to place all this crap in a little small ass studio that is shaped like an L. Would be really sad though, if the cheapest station in town (KUSI) beats KNSD to HD news.

You know, I was just shopping around downtown on Christmas Eve and it really seems as if KNSD is crammed into that facility. I peeked into the newsroom while I was walking along Broadway, and it seems super narrow and small... and some of the cubes in the newsroom are crammed right up against that window. Weird.

If anything, I think any new set for an NBC O&O is going to look like what we've seen at WNBC and WCAU, not KNBC. NBC Universal gets a package deal when it comes to news sets--just how KNBC, KNTV and KNSD all got Express Group sets around the same time. Times have changed, and they want everything to have a similar look and feel as the other NBC News properties. It'd be interesting to see how KNSD work in a WCAU-like set in that storefront studio.

Even though the studio may be small, I'd be willing to bet that locally-produced high definition content is in the cards for KNSD fairly soon. The Ross OverDrive production automation system that NBC Universal purchased for the O&Os is HD-ready (but this begs the question of whether or not KNSD has made the move to OverDrive), so they only really need the cameras and associated infrastructure to make the transition to HD.

If KNSD would need more room for and HD set...they can prolly get rid and relocate the interview set and use that corner of the studio by mimicking the Today Show where Hoda and Kathie Lee sit in that corner with the wierd mirror magnified screen covering the corner support.
