first on fox 18 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 One of the most persistent local-TV rumors of early 2009 has been confirmed: KWGN-TV/Channel 2 is being rebranded as "The Deuce" on or about March 30. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/03/channel_2_general_manager_denn.php More: http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/03/channel_2_general_manager_denn_1.php
lugnuts6 91 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 WPIX Rebranding ..good KWGN..how espn2-ish KDAF.. Not bad But what about KTLA
FirstNews8 13 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Wow... Im stunned.... that is honestly the worst branding I have EVER heard of... they had a nice brand before.... great graphics.... This is not hip or anything like that... honestly, in an economy like this, with the way commercial sales are down... the last thing you want to do is TEST your branding.... I think it is just plain S-T-U-P-I-D
mbhcity 3 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 WPIX Rebranding ..good KWGN..how espn2-ish KDAF.. Not bad But what about KTLA And we thought the 2005 look was bad enough.....
tw-804 194 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 In my opinion, Tribune should leave the brandings like it was before. But I still like WPIX's branding even though I still say "CW11". Oh, and "The Deuce" was the nickname for Second Street in Jackson Ward, a historically African-American neighborhood in Richmond.
first on fox 18 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 what ever happened to just "Channel 2"? Not hip enough, you square. My 20 year old brain can't relate to it...
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 So what's the newscast going to be called? "The Deuce News", "Deuce 2 News", or "News 2 Deuce On"? I wonder if this is some sort of strategic way of commiting station suicide.. It's great that we have another old station GM guy (Leonard) thinking he's being "hip" and "cool". I wonder how many pot circles went on in his office.. I see the direction he's going with the station. I just don't think he's the right guy to be running the station that direction.
tyrannical bastard 4084 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 what ever happened to just "Channel 2"? I would have preferred "number two" But the way the industry's going...this name fits perfectly.
ColumbusNewsFan 218 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 So KWGN is named after taking a big dump, April Fools right? Right? Oh good god, man?
FirstNews8 13 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I see the direction he's going with the station.QUOTE] Yeah... right into the ground!
FirstNews8 13 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I see the direction he's going with the station. Yeah right into the ground!
FirstNews8 13 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 lol....all jokes aside... this will be a case of what not to do... this is a great lesson for future news directors.
channel2 982 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 KWGN has been getting worse ever since Local TV took over. Tribune's just going further down the toilet. And even worse, KWGN's pulling a KPLR and moving their longstanding 9PM news to 7PM, and making it like an infotainment show! :rofl!:
eyewitness_news 5 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 What is this world coming to!? Didn't KWGN use to be a superstation for the Rocky Mountain region and some parts of the West? Now only time will tell if KWGN moving their 9pm newscast to 7pm would be a smart move.
Link 3 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Why not just use "KWGN" as the branding or "Denver's 2" like it used to be?? It would be better. It sounds weird "Daybreak on the Deuce" and "News on the Deuce"...
KRAP-TV 146 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Here's a review of their first day. It's not looking too good... http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/03/the_debut_of_news_on_the_deuce.php
ColumbusNewsFan 218 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I'll make this simple..... Enough said!
Link 3 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I'd also like to add--isn't KWGN the more established station in Denver with higher ratings with their 9pm newscast? I don't see why KWGN's 9pm broadcast should have been moved to accomodate KDVR's. I think they should have left things on Channel 2 intact and put the 7pm news on KDVR with Fox primetime 8pm-10pm then have KDVR do a 10pm newscast following Fox primetime.
