When it Comes to Primetime Newscasts, Oh How The Mighty Have Fallen

Independently-produced newscasts went off the air, and they shut down their news department; the way people get their news is never again the same.

WTOG Channel 44 Tampa/St. Petersberg, Florida

1) The 10 O'Clock News went on the air in 1982

2) Under UPN (now CW44), WTOG closed its news department in 1998

WLVI Channel 56 Boston, Massaschusets

1) The 10 O'Clock News went on the air in 1984 - along with new owner at the time, Gannett Broadcasting (owner of NBC's KUSA Denver, CO; CBS's WUSA Washington, DC; ABC's KXTV Sacramento, CA; and USA Today Newspaper)

2) After the transition from the WB to the CW in 2006, and when Sunbeam and its station (NBC's WHDH Channel 7), Channel 56's independently-produced 10pm news went off the air, and WHDH now produces its primetime news for WLVI.

It's not their fault really,

Before since the 1970s and 80s, if anyone wants to get their news early before they go to bed, they can watch the prime-time news and be done with it. But now, thanks to heavy competition from 24-hour Cable News (National and Regional) as well as the Internet, some of the hard-news format had to either evolve (ala WSVN) or die a horrible death like WLVI and WGBH in Boston.

I wish it was easier for the journalists to understand that, but again, it's just business.

Don't forgot WKBD in Detroit.

1. They used to produce the 10:00 news in the '90s when they were the Fox affiliate in Motown. (WJBK wasn't Fox 2 until circa 1995 when CBS opted to buy WWJ TV 62).

2. They shut down their news department in 2002 after having been duopolied with WWJ. (Damn you Viacom!)

Got the history slightly backwards up there... New World bought WJBK right before they made that big affiliation deal with Fox... CBS pretty much had to buy 62 if they didn't want to lose viewership in Detroit outright...

KNTV's WB Primetime News at 10 PM on KBWB (KOFY-TV)

1.) in 1989 the first KOFY-TV in San Francisco resimulcasted NewsCenter 4 at 10 PM on KOFY-TV from 1989-1992 before that newscast was abandoned due to KRON's Early Prime Schedule (Consequently, they also dropped Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune which in February 1992 moved to it's current station, KGO-TV.)

2.) Granite Ownership (When Granite bought KOFY, they changed it's call letters to KBWB and thus became a duopoly with then ABC, now NBC O&O KNTV) The Newscast from 1998-2000 was just simply known as WB 20 News @ 10 produced by KNTV, later after KNTV dropped ABC on July 3, 2000, the newscast was rebranded as "WB PrimeTime News at 10 PM for a while KBWB aired the full hour along with KNTV but sometime in late 2000 only aired the 1/2 hour as KNTV aired "WB Primetime News @ 10 Page 2". When KNTV became an NBC affiliate on January 1, 2002, they changed it's channel position to NBC 3 (Analog Channel 11) in which KBWB was still owned by Granite Broadcasting. KNTV would still simulcast it's 10 PM newscast on KBWB for another 4 months, but in April, 2002, they ended their partnership after KNTV was sold to NBC and thus became an NBC O&O (Sidenote: KNTV changed it's position back to channel 11 on September 16, 2002 "ID' as NBC 11" and as of July 20, 2008, the name changed to "NBC Bay Area")

3.) On January 8, 2007 KBWB began to air KGO's ABC 7 News @ 9 on "Your TV 20" On October 8, 2008 KBWB rebranded back as it's 1986-1998 calls of KOFY (Newly rechristened) and thus began airing their news block as "ABC 7 News @ 9 PM on KOFY-TV". It's not that bad to be honest with you.

1. WTVJ started newscast for WDZL/WBZL 39 in 1997. "WB 39 News at 10." (This was a little while before simulcasting news on Pax TV)

2. As WSFL "CW News at 10", Final broadcast: August 31, 2008. Possible reason for this includes WTVJ sale to PNS-FL. Next day, WSFL rebrands to look like its sister Tribune-owned newspaper  (Gotta love that sound it makes every time you change pages)

3. WTVJ not sold, so what came out of this? Apparently, another time slot for Everybody Loves Raymond. Didn't I see that morning show guy on Nickelodeon before?

If you're talking about Dave Aizer, yes. On Slime Time Live.
