According to another media industry site, WVIT's weather will soon be produced by WNBC in New York.

That would be terrible if people lost their jobs, however, it's not really surprising.

Not surprising, no. But yes, that is awful news. It doesn't make sense when it comes to severe wx, either. If there's a big storm in NY, and a separate one in CT, how do they effectively do coverage?

There is a signifigant overlap of the two markets...our weather maps usually include all of CT. Weather events are usually shared by CT and NY, so sever weather isn't an issue. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Logistically, it would be weird, since WNBC uses the 103" plasma, and you would see the actual set, not just a greenscreen.

Same is happening on the Left Coast. KNBC will handle KNSD weather. Is this all a prelude to moving to weather channel handling NBC weather duties? as for the severe weather concerns, WINS uses AccuWeather in State College PA yet admirably handles severe weather, so guess it can work on TV too

True, but CT viewers are not going to sit and watch them give both CT & NY forecasts during severe weather... viewers will literally flock away from 30.

Yeah, this is a very stupid move on NBC Universal's part. NBCU should just forgone on the new facility for WVIT if they knew they were that cash strapped. Now they are essentially gutting the market's local weather team. People will see the imcompetence of NBCU when severe weather strikes for sure.

Problem is, the company was well into construction when things went south. The building's gotta be complete by now. Two months ago they were advertising HD news coming soon. About a month ago the promos disappeared and they haven't made the HD switch yet.

I would assume there's a drop-down chroma wall somewhere on that set. Having a studio and no chroma wall is a disaster waiting to happen.

Now that is down right pathetic. They should just go through with the HD conversion and just be done with the station. WVIT should have been sold back in 2006 when they put other 4 lower DMA O&Os on the market. Now NBCU is eating crow for keeping WVIT in no-growth Connecticut, which is a slow growth market and threw actual high growth markets like Raleigh/Durham and Columbus under the bus.
