In June of 2009, WVIT left channel 30 and moved to channel 35 when the analog to digital conversion was completed.[1] The station will be switching to full HD news upon the opening of the NBC Connecticut Digital Media Center in the coming weeks.

Starting on Monday June 15, WVIT will move from its old building into a new facility on that day, and when the news begins broadcasting in High Definition, WVIT will rebrand from NBC 30 to NBC Connecticut HD.

You meant July 15 right?

Well........ABOUT EFFING TIME!!!

WVIT will INDEED be the first in CT to broadcast its news in HD. Fox 61/WTXX may be the next to follow suit when they move into the Courant building as Tribune consolidates the media of Fox 61 and The Courant.

WVIT will launch this Tuesday. The studio cameras, set and graphics will be the only things in HD.

FOX61 will be the first station in CT to be HD in the studio AND in the field.

WVIT traditionally changes things on Fridays. Not sure why they picked Tuesday this time around. From the promos on the air now, the studio looks pretty nice. Looks like a hybrid newsroom/studio combo. We'll see how things pan out tomorrow.

Here's WVIT's Gerry Brooks reflecting on the old building and his career in general:

From WVIT's morning show facebook page:

---

Here we sit at the cusp of a new era. Thursday morning at 11am, local TV in Connecticut will never be the same. We kick the tires and light the fires in our new HD studio and CT viewers get to see the evolution of TV finally hit the local stage.

A lot of hard work(maybe the understatement of the year) has gone into the past four years. We can’t be more exciting about this moment. Everyone has been working crazy hours to make sure that when this momentous occasion happens everything, and everyone is ready to go.

I can’t wait for Thursday to come. I will be honored to direct the last show broadcast from our old facility and be the first to put our new facility on air.

Tune in, I promise you will love what you see.

Looks like they're moving just in time. Tonight at 11, Gerry Brooks mentioned the lights kept cutting out on them during the news in the old studio. They kept wiping from video to video throughout most of the show. I'm Tivo'ing the first show out of the new digs in case anybody's interested.

Set looks good in SD, even better in HD. Looks like they're doing at least some field stuff in HD. The lead story out of the 11pm news and two re-racked packages were in HD along with a handful of VO's. Not too bad for day one.
