justin2kx 237
It may be, but at what cost (especially in a changing economy)? Joe Capitano 4
CHEK may be saved Sadly, it doesn't look like that will be the case. This was posted on the Victoria Times-Colonist website on Friday, Aug. 28 (Full disclosure: The Times-Colonist is published by Canwest Global)... CHEK TV is closer to fading to black Monday night after Canwest Global Communications announced yesterday an employee-ownership initiative did not meet its guidelines to keep the oldest private station in the province operating. (further...) At issue is the transfer of the CRTC licence, which would take about 90 days, in which Canwest would be on the hook for any debt. Full Story Here. One of its columnists weighed in on this in today's read. That column is Here. On this news, and barring a last-minute salvation, CHEK has announced it will present a two-hour special looking back at the station's history at 8 PM Monday (Aug. 31), not long before the switch is pulled for the last time. hinto 0
Don't know the theme's name, but it's by James Bowers. WIC/CanWest has been commissioning themes from him over the last decade; he's done the previous themes for CHEK and BCTV (pre-affiliation switch), and the Global O&O and network packages (both 2001 and 2006). http://jamesbowersmusic.com/radio/JamesBowersRadio.html - CBC_Closing_60_sec: current close for CBC News Vancouver - CH_closing_60: the theme in the clip - Global_News_close: main close for the current Global O&O package - GNN_Theme: current Global National theme - Morning_Closing: morning close for the current Global O&O package Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5598-two-canadian-stations-to-shut-down-in-august/#findComment-53804 Share on other sites
KKyuubi 0
So anyway, the Fall of E! went like this: CHCA and CHEK = gone CHCH and CJNT = sold to Channel Zero, CHCH is now a all-news/movie station, but still uses the unbelievably good branding package they had used before the transition. CHBC = now a semi-satellite of Global BC as "Global Okanagan" CJFC, CHAT, CKPG = Now affiliated with CityTV, although still using the previous logos Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5598-two-canadian-stations-to-shut-down-in-august/#findComment-53930 Share on other sites
DMA 135
I'm reading that CHEK was sold to employees, saving all their jobs and keeping the station on air. That's really cool, a TV station co-op!
