Geoffrey 863
Stephen Clark, one of the anchors at WXYZ, has been trying to talk with tweeters while anchoring his newscasts. He calls it the #backchannel and got some press in the NY Daily News last week: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/08/13/2010-08-13_weighing_in_on_future_of_anchors.html Tonight he's trying a behind-the-scenes UStream feed of him at the desk where he actually talks to his laptop during packages and commercials. You can check it out right now: http://ustre.am/mDvj I'm not entirely sure what purpose this serves other than to make the viewers feel more connected and perhaps it'll get old after multiple attempts but it seems kind of cool right now. Is this a sneak peek at the future of local news? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/6672-stephen-clarks-backchannel-at-wxyz-detroit/ Share on other sites
Weeters 1916
A couple people have tried this before (I can't remember who it was but it was a meteorologist somewhere). Other stations have done web chats with studio cameras too. All of these seem to have died off after a while... abric 181
The meteorologist you're probably talking about is Kim Martucci formerly of WUSA-TV now at WRC-TV in Washington D.C.
