Channel 4 0
We all know that NBC4 had a lot of cut backs in 2006 and a lot in 2008. Are they still suffering? Since Sue has been out Chuck has been anchoring both the 6 and 11pm broadcasts solo. Also many times on Weekend Today in New York Pat or Erica have anchored solo. They no longer get fill in anchors. In the past they always would. Also they have not decorated their studio/newsroom for Christmas. ProButtonPusher 230
I don't think having a full-time staff member fill-in on a newscast costs them much (they're most likely salaried and Full-Time Employees can work up to 48 hours a week without being paid overtime). TellyGenic 33
David Ushery was off on Sunday - while Darlene Rodriguez did the post-game (a.k.a. 11:00 news), Tom Llamas anchored at six. I'm not surprised - clearly the station has been grooming him for bigger things ever since he joined them 2 years ago. lazynetjunkie 34
Many talent contracts now dictate how many times someone is willing to be a "fill-in". Some have it in their contracts that they are willing to be a fill-in for only X amount of days a year (otherwise, they would have to be paid extra to do more days). Many, in lieu of taking an altogether pay cut in contract renewal time, go the route of very minimal fill-in or axing fill-in altogether. Most stations now don't call in for a fill-in reporter or anchor when someone is off. If someone was to fill-in anchor, it would have to be someone already scheduled to work that day who is usually a reporter. If that reporter is used as a fill-in anchor, nobody is called in to take that reporter's place so the station would lose out on a report. Calling someone from home is a big no-no nowadays unless it's an "emergency" such as weekend mornings when staffing is extremely bare minimal at the stations because of how contracts work now, the station would have to pay out extra money. anthonyz 26
wnbc has been doing the solo move for sometime now. the weekend news has been solo since felicia taylor left the station in 2006. David took over that newscast solo since. then in the past year or two, it moved over to the weekday. but again nowadays, it can go down to contracts, especially with the "content center" changes that occurred in 2008-2009. lastly, wnbc usually decorates the studio the week of Christmas through the new year. I think the stations went over the edge to decorate the studio early this year. IceManNYR 240
WNBC uses a two person team on Saturday's David and Melissa do the 6pm and 11pm newscasts. I don't know why they don't use the same pairing for Sunday. Usually David is solo at 6pm and Darlene does the 15min newscast after Sunday Night Football solo. Weeters 1916
So what if they don't have poinsettias. Are they going to be shunned by society now? Shunned by TVNT, at least. NYNews 54
Well, at the very least, they do have their plasma showing the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree, which is very nice. None of the other stations can tout that. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/6979-budget-cuts-on-nbc4/#findComment-63412 Share on other sites
