After it was quietly mentioned on a newscast on Friday, WGRZ in Buffalo is apparently getting a new set. I don't know if they are going HD now or not, since they haven't really publicized it at all, but it'll be interesting in any case.

Thats a link to the post on WGRZ's facebook page that shows a picture of their old news set and talks about how they're getting their new one in the next few days, which probably means it won't be a huge revamp.

About time for the people that gave KOTA a run for their money in the "length of use of one news open" business.

(that was 1999, though the original was 13 years old! – they soon finally dumped that look. TV by Design from 1987, equivalent to the package KSBW received at that time. It's so old that the KMPH version was made before John Christopher Burns split ways with those people!)

I have to say, it aged pretty well. It doesn't look bad in their up-converted newscasts today. Here's a link to the open for one of their recent newscasts that I recorded:

It had been around since 1998...right before I moved there. Wasn't a bad looking set but it was time to change it up for sure.

I was able to get a screenshot of their temp set from a video on their website BTW...

It's actually not too bad for a set from 1998. Will be interesting to see what they do for the new one.

Here in Providence, WJAR's set was last updated around 1995 or 1996, while the other stations in town received updates 2-3 years ago.

Here is WGRZ new set made by FX Group, it debuted on January 17th.

Can't FX come up with any other designs for desks?
