NewsReporter25 0 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Thursday's KPRC Local 2 News at 4 opened with their new graphics adopted late last year, but with Hometown News as the music...not Advantage. Could have been a technical glitch, I'm not sure. The graphics were cut down, and the music cut fit the graphics open. Obviously not a return to Hometown News because their commercial break went with the boring cut of Advantage they use. KPRC needs to use better, more upbeat cuts of Advantage instead of the small market cuts they use. Just my opinion, what's yours???
bhratbrat 437 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Go back to Hometown News..do you have the video of this?
NewsReporter25 0 Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 no, i don't have the capability of recording from TV to computer or vice versa
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Not only they go back to Hometown News, BRING BACK NEWS 2 HOUSTON!
jestbiteme 13 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Obviously not a return to Hometown News **kills self**
jdcnow 14 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 BRING BACK NEWS 2 HOUSTON! Where LOCAL News Comes First!
AdamTheJ 90 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Hometown News is such an underappreciated news pkg. Why haven't other stations used this package?
jdcnow 14 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Hometown News is such an underappreciated news pkg. Why haven't other stations used this package? Add Hometown to the unfortunate yea-long list of great music packages that turn out to be one-hit wonders.
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Update on the KPRC Hometown News-Advantage situation. They are using the open cut of Hometown News for there morning newscasts (as of yesterday @ 5 AM) and advantage for the rest of the newscast. I just think its for the morning and 4 o'clock newscasts as the open. The rest of the newscasts (late newscast last night) was using the WFSB Advantage Cut open
HoustonTVNews 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Ahhh miss them News 2 Houston days. BRING BACK NEWS 2 HOUSTON! WTF? No. I will spare you all of the rants of why I believe the above statement, but it stands. Local 2, for what it is, is an improvement over the later years of the N2H format.
AceHawk447 17 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 On the themes...do you think a customized Advantage theme w/ Hometown News signature would work for KPRC?
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 they did fire the news director and hired former WJXT news director Skip Valet
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Well I dont know how much this will work but have Jerome Gray working on the Nightbeat team with Bill and Dominique (at least feature stories). The graphics are decent..nothing to be desired for but does get the point across. Sadly though the CW graphics are better (even though the set says low budget).
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 i have a feeling they were..KHCW is not a very big budget station but is always impressive. If these werent done in house i would say done by the same people @ WGN
HoustonNews 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 The new opens featuring Hometown News are a tad different than the original Advantage ones. They are a little more flashy. I like them better than the Advantage ones. I just wish they would switch to a different music and graphic package. They should at least stop using old outdated cuts of Advantage in favor of newer modern ones. And their prior graphics were far better and easier to read (the L3s were actually L3s). It seems like every station in this market (except for KTRK and KHCW) is settling for crummy graphics. KHOU recently tweaked their GO graphics (yet again), but this time got rid of animation and transparency in the OTSs and L3s respectively. They also screwed up the color scheme in some graphics. KPRC's graphics are just horrible. I know they're made in-house and I really applaud KPRC for trying, but I would personally rather see better (maybe even professional) graphics.
Local First 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 my bet is khcw's graphics are done by tvbd.
tvnewsthemes 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hey - For those of us out there old enough to remember it - bring back the Channel Two News days! Channel Two News with Ron Stone, Jan Carson, Doug Johnson, and Bill Worrell! Ahhhh, those were the days... Jim
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I agree except Bill WORRELL!!!! Hes comfy with the rockets
HoustonTVNews 0 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Hey - For those of us out there old enough to remember it - bring back the Channel Two News days! Channel Two News with Ron Stone, Jan Carson, Doug Johnson, and Bill Worrell! Ahhhh, those were the days... Jim Amen! As someone who grew up watching KPRC as a competent and hard-news operation, there is no logical way anyone could ask for a return for the News 2 Houston era... well, at least the stuff from '97-98 onward. Throw Craig Roberts into the wishlist for me! He definitely rounded out that group quite well. Sports Sunday was awesome thanks to him, his deadpan delivery and the occasional rants from good 'ol Barry Warner. Hard to believe they were once one of the most acclaimed news departments in the country.
Gulf_Broadcasting 0 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 What do KHCW's gfx look like? http://youtube.com/watch?v=gHna1VUnOOY they definently (sp) beat out KDAF's graphics. KDAF's are horrible!
HoustonNews 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Update on the Hometown News opener change.. it's been changed back to Advantage. Here is a montage video I just uploaded onto YouTube for those who aren't aware of what KPRC's on-air image is like. (the video may still be processing - Wed 7:25pm)

RGSJenkins 435 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Even though this video is 19 years old, these graphics and theme are better than what Local 2 has now.
