1. Maybe it'll be WFTS, with "ABC Action News" finally being ditched for something else. "ABC 28 News", anyone? "ABC Tampa Bay News"?

 2. Call it a lie or whatever you want, in his original interview Lotche claimed that he and others were forced to the ground by gunpoint after their car was pulled over or whatever. That has been determined to be a lie, Ryan Lotche himself has admitted that. And forgive me because I don't watch too often, but the few times I have seen Today's Take they pretty much spend the first 20 minutes discussing hot topics and giving their own opinions on it. If that's the format of the show, Al Roker was well within his rights to voice his opinion. He's a weatherman on the Today Show, yet you're acting like he must be as impartial as an investigative journalist on 60 Minutes or something. Also, the Olympic committee itself has spoken out about taking action again Lotche and the other swimmers for their stupidity. I doubt that they're seriously upset with NBC for reporting the news as they should, and if there are indeed strained relations between them and NBC it most likely stems from the peacock's shitty Olympic coverage.

 3. Nobody takes what the Brazilian authorities say at face value. Everyone knows the problems that are plaguing the country. That being said, Ryan LIED. He did not "embellish" the story like you or Billy say, he flat out lied. This is an excerpt of an ABC News article that quotes Ryan on what happened when a gun was pulled out: And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet -- he left my cellphone, he left my credentials." And from the Washington Post: Asked why he lied to NBC’s Billy Bush in a Sunday interview about a gun being pressed to his forehead and cocked in his initial story, Lochte said he was still intoxicated from drinking the night before. He later said he “definitely had too much to drink.” I hardly call that embellishing, especially in a situation like this that has deep seated implications all around. Plus, NBC and the USOC/IOC have a contract for the next several olympic games. I highly doubt they USOC/IOC are going to forfeit any of those billions of dollars Comcast has agreed to pay because of how Al Roker called out Ryan for lying.

 4. I the only things that might be changed next year is the 6pm hour (no need for another political show after MTP Daily) and 8pm because of Chris Hayes lousy ratings . Maddow gets really good ratings and she is their flagship show, she's not going anywhere. Plus O'Donnell gets decent ratings at 10pm so I think he'll be staying around.

 5. Godspeed to an incredible journalist. Bob is definitely one of the good guys in broadcasting, he will certainly be missed.

 10.
Finally, a clean one minute closing cut of "News '80s" by VTS Productions was added to the NMSA site. I noticed hints of the WWLP-WANE-WLOX theme, which is listed as the "KTVW 1986 News Theme"
@Raymie @ChesapeakeTV @TServo2049 @Ntropolis Tagged a few peeps where we had discussed the WGHP News '80s package back a month or two ago. Found a clip earlier today from WLOX in 1984 that features the News '80s theme off and on for the first couple of minutes, starting at :28 seconds in. I don't think the first track before 28 secs is related. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP30snibz7s So, this puts WLOX using the package at least as early as 84 through the early 90's,which they followed with the "Jazzy" mixed cut of "Full Potential" from Network Music. Anywhoooo, this shows the theme that WLOX-WANE-WWLP-KTVW-WEVU used was a part of the overall WGHP package or an update to it. One thing is for sure - - it's definitely VTS, not that there was much doubt by anyone... :)

 12. An ex 'SVN-er. Neat. Shows you how much I love WSVN when I recognize a former employee working somewhere else. She did become a fill-in on 'SVN from time-to-time so this is nothing new for her.

 13. As silly as those brands are, that "Denver 7" even was used makes my head hurt.

 14. And the USOC isn't exactly rushing to defend Lochte so why would they get so offended that Roker called him out on this? As I have said before here and elsewhere, I am no fan of Al Roker but I think some are seeing something here that isn't there.

 15. But the thing is, Hayes' ratings are not that bad anymore and much of the replacement talk appears to have subsided. His show is pretty competitive with AC360 ratings-wise of late.

 16. I'm not sure most of TV news had big balls (or any in that matter) at all, it only became painfully obvious now

 17. Don't get me wrong... A lot of good news people didn't make it out alive. The most publicized downfall of the time was Jessica Savitch. It was a terrible crushing event that really hit home. But the pain didn't last long enough because nothing changed one bit. Amazing how anything ever got done seeing most newsrooms were always 'hung over"...until right after the 2pm story meeting when all was good again. TV news has no balls anymore because nobody is just drunk or high enough to tell some of these bozo-politico's to eat s%$t and die.

 18. And during the '70s, cocaine would become the opium of newsrooms everywhere, especially in Los Angeles where Pat O'Brien was a reporter at KCBS (when they were still KNXT). I would assume Atlanta was not immune to it as well, but the only two from that era who may remember it well are Richard Belcher (who was at WAGA at the time and until the mid-80s had a mustache like O'Brien and Geraldo Rivera) and John Pruitt.

 19. I wouldn't be surprised if WTMJ drops the "Today's" branding. KIVI did a couple of weeks ago and installed a virtual news set. With the changes Janet has making WTMJ news into a hard news format, hopefully Scripps doesn't make them use "Action News", "On Your Side" or "Works For You".

 20. My guesses: WTMJ... dropping the TMJ4 branding KGTV...Because they're always making stupid decisions KTNV...Seems like it would be time for a rebrand.

 21. We'd really need a 1986/87 clip of WLOX to ascertain a potential progression.

 24. Yeah, that first track is High Combustion out of the Network library. Not surprising, really... The VTS theme is definitely the main attraction though. I'd definitely have to agree that it's pretty solid proof that the KTVW, etc. theme is a straight update, rather than a separate package with some common melodic cues. I almost wonder if it was WLOX who commissioned "v2". They seem like they were the last ones to use it (I recall seeing a YT comment on jacky9br's video of the jazzy Full Potential open saying they switched to it in mid '92, and I suspect they switched from "v2"), they do have a known history of commissioning music (the '98 Ford theme comes to mind), and their news department looks quite well staffed and funded for 1984 and the market in that video...
