  1. Heck, that's why they brought in that Tony guy for what seemed like a week before switching to Jesse. Wasn't that sort of the plan for Mike and Mike, too?

  2. Nexstar has really shot themselves in the foot with the lack of live streaming. Even worse, the fact they TOOK IT AWAY from stations that had it before they were sucked up by Nexstar. It seems like a case-by-case situation, they somehow got one up on WVLA's website during the Baton Rouge officer shooting coverage, but it was absent during flooding coverage. Their competition rolled over them with non-stop streaming coverage. And now that Hurricane Hermine is about to hit close to Panama City (Apalachicola is in their DMA), WMBB looks like it has had to contract out streaming to another company (Neves Media) to put a stream up on their site via YouTube live. Situations like these are when live streaming comes in handy....since people need to evacuate, and especially since a tower could be rendered inoperable by the conditions. In fact, WMBB was one of the first stations to live stream their coverage back in 2005 (during Hurricane Dennis). Over on WJHG and WECP (as well as WCTV), they're set up to stream and it's always been a part of their infrastructure. This is why I have serious reservations about Nexstar and their takeover of Media General...they just don't get it and are moving their company backwards with moves like these. Sad thing is, the web platforms they've acquired (Inergize) have supported streaming in the past and many livestream (and NewsOn) streams could be eliminated post-merger.

  5. Also the first TV station in the entire state (let alone Cleveland) and the oldest station in the Cleveland market to keep its original callsign and their historical analog channel number. WEWS is a legacy callsign... cumbersome as hell, but still, legacy. Fun but silly trivia: at one point in the early 1970s, WKYC was branded as "TV3," WEWS as "TV5" and WJW-TV as "Television ei8ht" (that itself became "TV8" in 1977).

  6. Fixed. As long as WEWS doesn't change much else, News 5 is fine with me. To be honest, I kinda like the ring "News 5, On Your Side" has.

  7. Edward Willis Scripps, the founder of the entirety of Scripps, which had their first paper in Cleveland. They ain't changing.

  8. As those of you who frequent this forum know, KPHO was one of the users of Rick Krizman's 24 Hour News during its 15 minutes of fame in the mid 90's. The NMSA lists them as using it from an unknown start date until 1998, with a KPHO 1995 unknown from that year until some unknown time after. For several years now it's been assumed that this unknown is a mystery cut of Krizman's theme that the NMSA simply hasn't done anything about yet. I think I've just disproven that, through random listening at NMN. First, we step into the time machine, back to 2014 in the U.S. news music abroad topic: I have to admit, at the time I thought it was suspect too. The instrumentation in the clip referenced is quite Gari-like... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=9GdbOkjEXWE;t=13 ...and the signature doesn't quite work either. 24 Hour News tends to revolve around a 3 note cue, whereas this mystery theme uses more of a 6 or 7 note melody. Fast forward to this morning, and imagine my surprise when I randomly click on the Entertainment theme listed under series 1 of Hometown News on NMN. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? TL;DR: KPHO 1995 must be a Gari library theme of some sort, because it appeared in Hometown News, and the instrumentation matches Gari's work. Even if it isn't a Gari theme, the signature doesn't mesh with everyone's suspicion - Krizman's 24 Hour News - anyway.

  9. That won't be Altieri's first stint in the market; he was previously at KUSA.

  10. "News 5 Cleveland" is sort of clunky to say, almost like a tongue twister. It's also weird seeing "News 5 ___" and not "News 4 ___". Kinda like someone on the interwebs saying "that was 5ever ago" in place of "4ever." Also on a sort of related note, KSHB seems to have changed its slogan from "Kansas City's Breaking News Leader" to "Clear Complete Coverage." It's basically a return to their 2007ish-era slogan of "Complete Coverage." The L3 box and new promos show the change.
