  1. And that is exactly what they're going to do. Ion is also buying Boise's former Fox station KTRV from Block. Terms of these deals weren't disclosed.

  2. The difference with WRIC is that this is sponsorship of the breaking news segment. As FTVLive points out, the law firm's name will be on coverage of "breaking news" which will sound pretty distasteful when it's a tragic event.

  3. NH1 might have been a flop, but Bill Binnie is an absolute financial genius.

  4. I think the issue people are having here is the fact that it's a sponsorship specifically for breaking news, which depending on the event can mean they have a sponsor for mass destruction and death. It just doesn't look good.

  5. Nah. They'll call themselves Network 23 and the prophecy will be complete.

  6. CBS 2 is getting a new set in Septmeber, and will be on a temporary set all summer, according to Chris Wragge: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1574505179228527

  8. Just imagine it. OPEN: "From WRIC, this is Breaking News, sponsored by Tronfeld West & Durrett." ANCHOR: "Good evening everyone, we have a major breaking news story sponsored by Tronfeld West and Durrett. A school bus carrying 45 elementary school children has just driven into an incinerator and exploded at Nasty Filth garbage dump in Richmond. All lives have been lost. If you are a parent or guardian of one of the children on the bus, our breaking news sponsors at Tronfeld West & Durrett highly encourage you to contact them to discuss what actions you can take next."

  9. According to our partners at FTVLive, the Richmond Nexstar outlet WRIC sold the rights to breaking news coverage to a Richmond area personal injury attorney. No, really. On screen elements for breaking news will now be showing the logo of the law firm. Cue the TVNT breaking news memery in 3...2...

  10. David Novarro is off this week. Diana filled in at 4 with Liz.. gotta say they really do make a good team. Would like to see them paired together more often.

  11. WEWS had Cleveland Electric Illuminating and Ohio Edison (then competing utilities) as title sponsors for their newscasts from the late 1960s until 1998. It's not new by any stretch...

  12. My guess is 4 & 7 pm. Replacing Shannon at 4 and Joy at 7.

  13. WBAL is loosing longtime traffic and noon news anchor Sarah Caldwell who after 15 years has her last day this coming Friday. She posts that she'll remain in Baltimore but doesn't mention any future plans. Now I wonder if she may be crossing the street or hopping the fence over to WJZ now that Marcus Washington is heading to KNTV. Anchoring the weekend evening news would be a big step up.

  14. I'm surprised that Meredith hasn't unloaded this raging dumpster fire of a station; instead they doubled down and purchased WPCH from Time Warner. The station's toxic reputation has to reflect badly on Meredith's corporate image.

  15. That is exactly where she's heading. She'll be anchoring the afternoon/evening broadcast. They didn't state the specific times she'll be anchoring. And no telling whom she'll eventually replace. Joy, Audrey or Shannon (who's currently on maternity).

  16. Cool. How many sets have other stations been through while WNYW is still on the same one?

  17. Aww. I really liked that set. I thought it was one of the best in the group. I'm surprised they're getting rid of it already. Well, it has been 6 years since it debuted!

  18. McClatchy shrunk theirs from 15% to 3.8%. Make me wonder why Apollo didn't just took their remaining interest, instead of leaving the three with the crumbs.

  19. Tribune Media is selling its interest in that website to Apollo as well. Their interest will shrink from 32% to 8%.

  20. Tracy once said that both she and Mike were interviewed in November '93, and started right at the beginning of 1994. They traded places sometime in '95. The question I've always had, is who filled the void before them, as Jerry was the only one there for a sizeable chunk of time after Steve and Andy left.

  21. By selling sponsorship to the "breaking news" coverage, it does a couple of things. One is the distaste factor, but the other is that they will now be WAY MORE likely to actually use the breaking news banner, if only because some sponsor is going to want their money's worth.
