  2. Oh great. WXII in the Piedmont Triad, WXII in Northern Michigan. How fun. What did northern Michigan's WXII call sign mean?

  5. It's amazing to see how much Albany news changed in a mere 18 months, especially looking at old news articles and realizing that almost every newscast had some sort of turnover between those timepoints. Those WTEN opens have me welling up from all the nostalgia, they may have been the #3 station by an actual margin at that point and their graphics and music were a bit chintzy but they went out and did their best against a growing WNYT and WRGB careening into its dork age. To WRGB's credit, that closing cut of Making a Difference was WRGB in the 90s and survived until the station had a total image reset for their 70th Anniversary in 1998 when it was pushed aside for InSink.

  6. I'm sitting here scratching my head as to why they'd change the callsign to begin with (who cares??) and why Eric (who's clearly a huge TV news nerd) would try to grab the -LD variant of an existing -TV.

  7. They could file an objection on behalf of one of their stations in response. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess.

  10. That's among the best compilations yet! That KOCO open at 30 minutes in — how many branding ideas did they have just in the 1992-95 period? I mean, let's look. August 1992 - Still using the 1990 TVbD look (very Gannett red-white-blue) with some custom/station-made opens. April 1993 - New open and graphics with the 80s "5" in a box. (The whole open looks sped up!) Late 1993 - A slender "5" with the same graphics; the news is now "5 News". I believe this set was done by John Christopher Burns. The open reminds me a bit of WTLV at this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Vlq-pIpfbv4;t=774 1994 - The logo changes *again* along with new music. 1995 - By the time of the Oklahoma City bombing, KOCO has a new circle 5 logo and Primetime News. What were they thinking!? Four or five logo changes in just a handful of years!

  11. Anybody know where Ed Hanna's been? I feel likes he's been missing a few weeks now.

  12. Let’s take a moment to recognize how good Eyewitness Primetime is. Too bad it didn’t last long.

  13. KHJ in the mid-late 80s had "Simply Great News" with its 8 and 9pm news shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kATV26ZfsFk A couple of samples of that KCBS-WNEV theme from news teases with Warren Olney, from 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyW4L0-Ho0w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YAJz7BMSC0 On the Spanish side are these KWHY news bits... Early 2000s? Very late 90s? I have no idea on a date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfraWWYFl0A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di8pCXvS36w

  14. A very interesting report from Jana Wendt (then with 60 Minutes) describing the anger of Melbourne viewers when HSV7 was bought by Fairfax in 1987 and Mal Walden was sacked. He later joined ATV10 and retired from that station in 2013.
