1. It appears Gannett’s CGI Death Star began in 1983...

 2. I get where they’re coming from. But this may be another mistake in the making. For WBTS they got the ND or someone similar from WABC and now they got the AND from WPVI. Both stations are powerhouses and are licenses to print money. They’d have to severely screw up to fail at this rate. Now that’s not saying they weren’t successful or increased viewership. I imagine WNBC is doing alright as they bumped her up.

 3. Oh!! I remember that era/error. The complete abandonment of the venerable "Eyewitness News" history and tradition was another mistake of that time period. Despite repeated missteps that have been made over the years - there is a proud tradition at this station. By adapting to today's rapid-fire style of "Breaking News" TV journalism with a groundbreaking / torch-bearing approach should be their way to restore their leadership, success, ratings and most importantly credibility. Forging the future while respecting the past will be a huge task for whomever takes over this news operation. But sometimes you need to look back to find the way forward - and quite possibly with the support of an amazing "KYW-Proud" alumni they can find their way. Diane Allen – Susan Barnett- Steve Baskerville – Steve Bell – Richard Bey - Al Primo (creator of the Eyewitness News format) − Pat Ciarrocchi – Mort Crim – Mike Douglas − Tamsen Fadal – Max Gomez – Trudy Haynes − Marc Howard – Walt Hunter – Jack Jones − Larry Kane – Ernie Kovacs − Maria LaRosa – Alycia Lane – Matt Lauer – Robin Mackintosh – Larry Mendte – Andrea Mitchell – Kathy Orr - Jerry Penacoli – Malcolm Poindexter − Maury Povich – Jessica Savitch - Maria Shriver – Tom Snyder - Dick Standish - Dawn Stensland − Beverly Williams – Joe Witte – and many more. Enough preaching and pontificating...now let's get back to some REAL NEWS.

 4. Bob Perry... the voice of Cox Broadcasting in the ‘80s. Here’s another report from WSOC in ‘85, during their “News Image” era (I believe???)

WHBQ's Kristin Leigh is moving to WSOC in Charlotte: Former KOLR sports anchor/reporter Megan Rice was recently hired by WREG to fill a hole in their sports department following Glenn Carver's retirement in February. Her first day on the job was this past weekend:

 6. Although it's already "discovered"... I'm pulling up the Otis Conner WROC/WXII theme again. Listen closely to the melody in the background of this WXII promo from 1988... This was during the era they were using the "remixed" Wall to Wall arranged by Conner, but that's definitely the exact same melody as that's regarded as separate. Could it be the same package, or is it more likely that Conner was recycling the melody for the "Wall to Wall remix" now that we know the "WROC theme" existed in 1987 (KOB)? Is there more to the story about the WXII/WYFF remix?

 7. Anybody know if Santia has anchored at all?

 8. NBC can't get rid of Hoda just 6 months in as co-anchor, especially since Today's ratings have started to get back to where they were before Ann left.

 10. Some more from the KTRK archives. This happened in Mont Belvieu, TX (where I am originally from) a year before I was born. In fact, the intersection where Shara Fryer is on is Hwy 146 and Loop 207 (which is the old main loop of Mont Belvieu). Just to give some history..Mont Belvieu sits on top of a massive oil salt dome (which is why its called Barbers Hill)..In 1972, the high school moved east to where FM 3180 (Eagle Drive) is now. What used to be there was just the Chambers county dump. The schools moved out east in the 80s as more and more explosions happened in Mont Belvieu and this explosion pretty much sponsored a mass industry buyout of all the land in and around Highway 146. https://www.joc.com/petrochemical-industry-buys-out-texas-town_19871214.html So, if you go over to Mont Belvieu, there is some stuff alongside Highway 146, but on 146, it stops right by an old apartment complex and strip mall and that goes all the way up to pretty much the current Cherry Hill Subdivision.

 11. A montage of promos and IDs from Canal 13 in Buenos Aires that aired in July 1999. PD: the David Copperfield promo contains a bit of "Escaped Felon" by Danny Pelfrey and Rick Rhodes, inspired by Gari's music.

 12. I don't see any of those scenarios happening anytime soon. Fox would tell Sinclair to suck it if they wanted a national evening newscast from Fox. Fox and Sinclair already have a somewhat testy relationship. Fox objected to the Trib sale, and sure, Fox never submitted a bid for Tribune in the end, but it probably doesn't sit well with them that one company owns a good chunk of their affiliates. I don't see either Fox or Sinclair trying a national broadcast, and the reason for that is that both of those companies are so cheap that they'd much rather keep extending local news and filling it with repeated and filler content. The way I see it, only if/when they start shutting down news departments would be the time when they would do a centralized national newscast.
