  1. I’ve always been a fan of @T.L. Hughes’s news open compilations on YouTube and I thought I’d start doing them myself. To start I’ve filled in gaps for the Tulsa market with KTUL.

  2. Same for KTRK in Houston. KHOU (CBS) also. However KPRC (NBC) follows the traditional local news at 5 and NN at 5:30.

  7. Turned up this letter to the editor from a 1990 edition of the Paducah Sun: OCR mangled the order, but there's an even more interesting 1991 article in here somewhere. It mentions Dan Steele — WPSD's operations and program manager! — who appears on the Copyright Office listing for WPSD Cares About You, and says he composed the work. (No sign of Forrest Turner, though.) There are also two mentions of a Stephanie Hall (née Cratch) who is the main female vocalist for the image song. She also did singing work in Nashville as well as some national commercials as a model (!). There's a surprising amount of detail for market size here - probably helps the two have been co-owned for decades. ——— Speaking of Nashville, from the April 3, 1986 edition of The Tennessean... Looks like they had THREE composers! Worth noting: the open video we have is from the very first day of the new theme! (Unfortunately, nashvilletv.org is still actually down.) The custom work wound up being sorta folded into TM's Spirit campaign.

  8. I believe that set of opens debuted when Forrest Sawyer took over for Chuck Moore, and then the branding became “Eyewitness News” later that year. Now that I’ve filled up most of the gaps for West Palm Beach, it’s your turn, Minneapolis-St. Paul... Also I never knew Terry McSweeney worked at WPBF. Must’ve been his job before going to KSAZ and WTEN...

  9. Aw, yeah! Central had a shaky few years, what with trying to establish a firm identity and escape ATV's shadow, but by the time the cake rolled in, they had evolved into winners. The cake is one of my favorite logos, and all the graphics, idents and such that accompanied it over the years are all incredibly good. Catchy music, cool animation, and eventually a distinctive jingle-- but then Carlton came in and ruined everything in their quest to corrupt and take over ITV from within. But every so often, you might be able to find this endcap on an old rerun or what have you:

  10. And like the nice little lamb that Matt was... He put on a brave little face...and managed to crack a brave little final parting smile...to his fellow workers... ...As they led him off to slaughter.

  11. Sylvia Lopez left not too long ago as well. Though I don’t think hers was by choice.

  12. You know what I just realized?! WNEM’s 2014 opens are really a knockoff of WFSB’s! Add to that the awful Scripps L3’s.

  13. for some reason this doesnt have a listing anywhere. my guess is that the theme is done in-house, this clip has some tape warping so it might be kinda hard to tell.

  14. "How will you know" was licensed to stations by Metromedia....I have never seen any of the MM stations use it, however I have seen the promos used by In addition to KOCO, fellow Gannett station KPNX, WPXI , WTVF, and WNDU.
