  1. FTVlive's take....New look, same crap https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/4/9/look-look-same-crap I'd have to agree with him. You can change the graphics all you want, it's the content that needs to be fixed....and the hand held shot HAS. GOT. TO. GO....NOW! But even a crummy newscast can be made just a little better with a decent look, music and presentation. But it does seem Gray is fixated on research that chases their ideal viewer while the station that wins just covers the news, plain and simple.

  2. Hate to say it, but it feels like Gray tried to put "Action News" lipstick on a "Snoozefest 19" pig, when Gray should've shot the pig and start over. I would say give it time, but as of now it looks like they're trying too hard to be "Action News" without being "Action News".

  3. Check the logo seen on that desk screen. Looks like they're keeping their current logo.

  4. If there's one thing Gray doesn't do, it's standardization. Though, I wouldn't mind if this package spread to other stations in the group.

  5. Someone screengrabbed their TV. And the bug is their old logo with the new Tegna graphic. Let's hope it stays that way.

  6. Oh my god. Please. For the love of god, that cannot be their new logo.

  7. I'm not saying that the WOIO style isn't miles beyond in terms of detail, but some of the elements are reflective of the KSBY package.

  8. Tiffani Tucker is sort of like a low-budget version of Romona Robinson. Being a who's who of poached Cleveland TV personalities alone wasn't going to work, so they all got slashed from the budget by the time they realized they've doped down the product too much... At least they weren't this desperate...

  9. Ah yes....the story that actually put WOIO on top of the ratings....that one time....

  10. They had personalities like David Wittman and Denise Dufala (the former elder statesman of WOIO), but Raycom went cheap and decided to rely on Tucker and Tanaka for its newscasts.

  11. Another DFW Veteran broadcaster is hanging up the mic. Longtime KDFW FOX 4 anchor/reporter Richard Ray is retiring on May 1st, but his last on-air newscast will be Sunday, April 21st (Easter Sunday). Richard has been in broadcasting for nearly 50 years; 36 years at KDFW. We wish Richard Ray all the very best. (In a subsequent tweet to unclebarky.com, Ray said he’s just been informed that Fox4 has added a May 1st sendoff during the 9 p.m. newscast “and maybe more. KDFW TV & Dallas/Fort Worth have been good to me.”)

  12. Their new news director "director of content" seems to want to make his impression on WKYC....and it isn't a good one. He's trying to turn their morning show into something like the Today show, but without the actual personalities who can pull this off. (Though arguably, Robin Swoboda could easily be the Kathie Lee Gifford in this scenario.) They're pulling a Fox 8 by making the news all about the personalities (Hollie Strano's "deeply personal story", an official dog "mascot," putting chocolate syrup on cereal) - but to me, it is just falling flat. (If you notice, their director of content rarely tweets actual news...it's an endless stream of love for Kathie Lee and Hoda...) These days are long behind us...
