  1. MeTV has been on a roll. They've been consistent in getting top-notch shows, they produce a late-night movie show, and they've even added a classic cartoon block with Warner Bros. and MGM shorts, something I don't think anyone was expecting. I can see them coming out just fine. After all, Weigel's been adamant about expanding their reach, and they've been buying stations in markets beyond the Great Lakes region they'd long restricted themselves to as a means to that end. That MeTV's been doing well in certain demos doesn't surprise me at all. A lot of their programming doesn't really have any equivalents on other OTA networks, even the Big 5, and they just know how to pick the best shows.

  2. More than likely the latter; that almost looks like a CBS test pattern to me (I've seen this happen on occasion in the seconds leading up to the start of the "CBS Evening News").....

  3. That looks like their playlist had the wrong source or satellite wasn't tuned to the right spot.

  4. Wouldn't be surprised if it fills those Court TV slots in the large markets......

  5. Ok, but if the profit is better than other options, they're going to stick with it.

  6. So, a refresh on top of a refresh on top of a refresh. KYW is never getting rid of that set they've been on since moving to 1555 Hamilton. Are they?

  7. There can’t be much profit in a show that nobody watches. You could probably make more money with a test pattern.

  9. Really? I could have sworn I read somewhere years ago that he came up with the idea of having those unique domain names while running KNWA and corporate liked it and decided to expand it to the whole group. Not sure I understand your statement "local is consistent in messaging and not looking like Tegna, Gray or Sinclair with their very copy/paste approach." Sinclair is pretty homogenous in their approach (I know very well having familiarity with their operations, so I'm not surprised). But TEGNA and Gray seem to leave a lot of the direction of their stations up to the local management as well. TEGNA does seem more willing to take risks. But Gray and Nexstar take very similar approaches to local news (both are trying to play catch-up on digital and broadcast is still a priority). Now that I think about it, I don't even think Gray has a corporate VP in charge of news unlike the other companies named here.

  10. Marquee has nevered "sidecar"-ed with Lowcountry. They've both have swapped LPs with each other last year. But they have no ties with each other. And again, no company needs to sidecar when acquiring LPs (either operational or unbuilt). I don't understand why you continue to think one company is buying the LPs on behalf of another when there's no ownership limitations on LPs.
