  1. Yes, yes, because THAT'S the stations' problems. Not the decades of mismanagement, budget cuts, and subsequent poor ratings. Really, most here need to get a grip. I don't want to say that CBS Local is a downgrade from modern Enforcer (though I think it is), but it DEFINITELY wouldn't be some magical problem-solver, either. More than just about any cosmetic adjustment we've ever discussed here, such a theme change across the board might be the most unnoticeable of all time, to the average viewer. Hell, I have no problem saying that neither Gari nor Stephen Arnold have produced the best adaptations of the WBBM signature. They just happened to be the powerhouse music companies of their eras, therefore most accessible for the average client.

  3. And things improved really quickly - forgot Bill Applegate was brought in a few months before Swanson brought his KABC playbook. Here's part of a Feb 84 article that talks about his changes (including daily 'discrepancy reports' for on air technical glitches).

  4. The schedule always gets messed up everywhere around the holidays. I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

  5. This has become too painful to witness. The once mighty CNN degrades it's product to the lowest of the low. And people wonder why CNN is called "fake news"? Here is why... https://theintercept.com/2018/08/28/cnn-credibly-accused-of-lying-to-its-audience-about-a-key-claim-in-its-blockbuster-cohen-story-refuses-to-comment/ Now I "get" that CNN wants to be the network to "Bring down Trump", but it will never happen because CNN has destroyed it's own brand...that BRAND was credibility. CNN is done as a legit news org. Nobody can save CNN now. Just like the catholic church it needs to be torn down for good...and then MAYBE rebuilt from scratch. The only saving grace is that hardly anybody (less than 250,000 viewers per week) watch CNN. More people last week watched Rick and Morty (pretty funny show) on Cartoon Swim. Like watching a good friend commit suicide in front of you... Good Bye CNN. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" There goes that KBEX-TV "EatNews One".... whoooooosh!

  7. The other best part on that '83 WLS Eyewitness News weekend late edition was the end-title music; we heard more of it here than in that evening edition from earlier in that year (the mayoral election) when it was on YouTube. And something to look for-- in the billing at the top, the announcer says "Jim Rose, sport"; the announcer also sounded a shade robotic, it seems to me.

  8. I'll park this here – some more of the Linda Kane look for KWGN from 2000 has made it to YouTube. This was also shortly before a new news director took over who painted everything blue and wanted to make everything look as safe as everything on KUSA. Also, for you WABC fans, there's a peek at Amy Freeze in there before she hit it big.

  9. Enforcer has seen several iterations of updates. Stations can use anything they want, composed from 1994 to 2020. However, stations typically use a mix of themes which can make the branding sound inconsistent. CBS Local was composed on the cheap. Stations are becoming less willing to pay for high quality music. So you get a lot of rushed, almost ubiquitous sounding packages that don't set the station apart from any other in the market. ABC has the edge because they invest more in station resources.

  10. Maureen O'Boyle returned to the anchor desk at WBTV tonight, after an extended absence of over 2 months. No explanation given but just a welcome back. I guess just a personal leave but all seems well and glad to see her back.
