  1. And the judge and lawyer involved will just say 'so you can totally pay for those rights, correct'? DS has no legal ground to stand on.

  2. Allen Media has a long way to go to decent respectability. Owning the Weather Channel is a good start, but the bottom line is Allen Media (and Entertainment Studios) are the slumlords of daytime TV with all of their cheap "court" shows.

  4. WNWO is the poster child of an also-ran station. Aside from it's days as Malrite/Raycom station, it's been the 5th station in a 2 station market. Also in a place like Toledo, it's quite telling when descendants of a single company have circled through EVERY station in the market. Raycom dumped WUPW for WNWO (Malrite merger) Raycom sells WNWO to Barrington for WTOL (Liberty merger) Gray dumps WTOL to Tegna to keep WTVG (Raycom merger) Securing NBC at the time may have been a bright spot, but that may have made it more vulnerable to outside competition from Detroit and Lima. As an ABC affiliate, and the Detroit stations on cable, WDHO/WNWO didn't have a prayer. And lest we forget Sinclair's extended blackout with Buckeye Cable that even extended into the 2014 Winter Olympics. With CBET and CBC coverage readily available, there were plenty of nails in the coffin already....

  5. Add Eric Braden (Victor from The Young & The Restless) to that list as he's currently battling cancer.

  6. Maybe. But, considering a Texas judge presiding over the company’s bankruptcy allowed Diamond to pay the MLB teams they weren’t able to wholly compensate 50% of the fees for their 2023 cycle, anything’s possible. It seems, at least, that some sort of settlement or a court ruling that the teams held the right to exercise the clause (regardless of whether they notified Diamond/Bally Sports beforehand), assuming there was an insolvency clause in the Suns/Mercury contracts that allowed them to seek other broadcast agreements in the event Diamond ever filed for bankruptcy, would likely be coming down the line.

  7. I was totally shocked by the news that Jerry has passed. No matter what you thought of his show, he was a legend for sure in Daytime TV. He hosted TPIR Live in Toledo a few years back. He was OK but you could tell he was there for the paycheck. Can't believe all the TV legends that have passed since the start of this decade, Regis, Alex Trebek, Larry King, and now Jerry. Protect Maury, Bob Barker, Pat Sajak, Judge Judy, Dan Rather, and Tom Brokaw at all costs.

  8. If his show has been running in repeats, I would imagine that would continue for the foreseeable future. A talk show like this that has evolved over the last 30-some years definitely has some repeat value to it.

  9. It was revealed that Jerry died of cancer, it couldve been one of the factors that sent Judge Jerry into reruns back in September.

  10. I know there's an 'In Memoriam' thread, but this might be appropriate here too. With all the changes happening in daytime television it's crazy that Jerry Springer passes away today. Normally I would decry a talkshow like what Jerry's became, but at least it knew what it was. A designated space where the lowest form of television could exist for one hour. The behavior of the people on the show was not to be praised or encouraged, but just observed, cautioned against and --let's face it-- to be amused by. His show was a guilty pleaseure. You knew this was bad but couldn't help but watch. RIP. https://amp.tmz.com/2023/04/27/jerry-springer-dead-dies/

  15. …and thus marks the beginning of the end of Bally Sports Arizona. Diamond Sports already lapsed on fee payments to the Diamondbacks (a recent court ruling did allow the company to pay half of what it owes to the MLB teams it missed payments to) and the MLB is considering reclaiming its broadcast contracts to its teams; losing the Suns and Mercury means it’s only a matter of time before the Diamondbacks and Coyotes head for the exits.

  17. Exactly that; you're being transferred from the local station over to the network feed, where the curtain is being raised on both the network programming, and then a presentation produced by the network itself in that show. It's the same reason it originated even in the days of radio where you had 'The National Broadcasting Company presents...' lead into a show.

  18. Definitely better than what they had before. I do appreciate when bits of local flavor are added to a set. And by that, I mean something local you recognize at quick glance. Not the "we put stone on this wall because our community has stones." To me, these local touches give a hint of personality that help prevent a set from being so sterile. In WCIV's case, I appreciate the Cooper River Bridge and Rainbow Row being included in the Low Country Live area. I wish they had done something similar on the duratrans behind the desk. But this is certainly a nice upgrade for the ABC4 team.

  19. This thread is about Tucker's dismissal, any pending litigation, his next career move, the network's plan for the time slot, and other related matters. If it further devolves into largely unrelated political matters, we'll shut this down. There's literally anywhere else on the rest of the internet to discuss and/or rant about such matters.

  20. Of course, all you lefties and rinos cheer, but here's what people on the other side are thinking. We know what really happened. Why wouldn't we when Fox has proven itself just to be another propaganda outlet for the military industrial state?

  28. Yeah, I feel bad for Ginger. I don't have live TV but I sometimes stream into GMA on Hulu and they always cut the weather forecast segment, which I never understood, you hardly see her (or whomever does the weather). You realize how much her role was cut through the years, I remember when Sam Champion had a prominent role when he was on the show and he would do segments that didn't have to deal with weather.

  29. If you've only watch WSB to be informed about Atlanta since 1991, you probably have never wavered from North Georgia being a worst place to live than the actual country of Georgia, everybody is ripping you off and Clark Howard is a one-man army protecting Atlantans from fraud, and that the Olympics never happened and the Georgia Dome never existed, much less MBS; graphics also got really annoyed about having to change the state flag graphic even once. They have, and will never, change, and the day they become 'ABC2' will be on par with the moment General Sherman entered the city limits. (I'm exaggerating but when I look at WSOC's current 2002 weather graphics I feel physical pain and Cox has more a true art department than a graphics department)

  30. I’d pay more attention to WSB, now under the control of a disinterested private equity firm and with little incentive to have the station progress from being perpetually stuck in 1993.

  31. The station they are on has a better signal. WCIV has about half the power if memory serves, plus they get to keep the duopoly. The FCC should just be lenient about trading virtual channel numbers. As long as no conflicts are created, I don't see what the big deal is. Much less confusing for the viewer.

  32. All this work for a subchannel on an MNTV station. (because their DT2 is ABC due to the usual Sinclair regulatory hijinks and the actual channel 4 being a sidecar lighthouse) But it is about time.

  34. Well, they were cursed with being WAY late to the newscast party as WTOL and WTVG,then known as WSPD news departments got well established, and even with Sinclair's moving news operations to WSBT South Bend Indiana didn't help give a rise to their anemic ratings, The Toledo Blade is reporting that Sinclair Broadcasting's WNWO NBC 24 Toledo will be airing its last newscast on May 12, a victim of Sinclair's Diamond Sports Group's chapter 11 bankruptcy , what's left of NBC24s News Department will be mothballed..
