Liz wanted off the 11 so she could be home earlier

Hard news. No interviews, no fluff. Its straight news the entire time from 5-11 a.m. WSVN is a station that doesn't do heavy fluff.

Actually, in this case, it isn't. KNBC did not pick up Dateline. The station is clearing the live East Coast feed of NBC Nightly News at 3:30. They added a 3 p.m. newscast leading into Lester. Thus, no room to clear Dateline. KTTV is airing it at 11:30 p.m. This is unrelated to the MyNet feed.

They absolutely will not pull Sade from the 11 pm unless she wants to stop doing the 11 pm, and I don’t see that happening for several years.

Then there is WSVN method. Re-runing the 11pm news at 4:30 am. Also not the worst idea. After all, most content between 4 & 6 am is a rehash of yesterday's news.

Traditionalism makes me want to say no but realistically the industry is going to have to evolve and adapt. This isn’t the worst idea.

The article is pretty short. It did not name stations or have quotes from anyone. A potential deal would use private debt market. Allen Media Group owns Entertainment Studios Inc., The Weather Channel and several network-affiliated stations. It has previously turned to the broadly syndicated debt markets to fund acquisitions, including its purchase of Honolulu’s KITV and stations owned by Quincy Media. It’s considering private credit — where debt is held by just a few lenders and is not typically bought and sold — as some of its obligations have struggled. The company’s term loan is quoted at around 88 cents on the dollar, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, while its $650 million of 10.5% bonds change hands at distressed levels, according to Trace.

That happened in 1996? Assuming Smith was never arrested again, I would think it'd be a non-issue 27 years later.

The more I read Rich Lieberman, the more I'm convinced that he no longer has any sources. He is the equivalent of an elderly fanfic blogger but for local TV. Lieberman doesn't see the ratings; I do. For the first two weeks of this month, KPIX was virtually tied with KGO for #2 at 6pm. I think their format and anchor changes have had a lot more of an impact than the branding change. I think adding news at 7pm, moving national news to 6:30, and putting Juliette Goodrich on the 6 and 7pm were all good ideas that made KPIX at least somewhat more competitive again. I'm not always sold on their unconventional leads and enterprise story ideas, but I suppose they're at least trying something different. The most underperforming network O&O in that market though for sure is KNTV – literally hashmarks for their 11pm some nights. KTVU's Like It Or Not, a mindless show that costs no money to produce, regularly gets higher ratings at 11:30 than KNTV does for their 11pm news or the Tonight Show.

I suppose he explained this so people would see his point of view. In reality, he just looks like more of a moron than ever. Especially since he flat out admitted that he wanted nothing to do with The CW in the first place, and only let WADL affiliate with it because he was planning to sell. Then why the hell is he whining about WMYD taking the affiliation he specifically said he didn't want in the first place????? EDIT 11/27/2023: And he's got Jesse Jackson and the families of the original African-American investors to back him. Somehow.

Um, Adell dropped CW. He did it by choice!! He needs to stop!

So, I stumbled across this article in The Desk, from the same day the cease-and-desist was sent to Scripps, in which Adell explains his side of the story on WADL sale/CW affiliation dispute:

People asking questions does not require any news outlet do the same. People noticing someone is gone does not mean it’s newsworthy, particularly the often salacious way it’s portrayed. It needn’t actually spread a specific rumor to be clearly invasive. Yes, they covered the bachelorette party, because she chose to share that. She also chose to share details of her medical diagnosis some time back. We would, as a society, be better served by observing the mind-your-own-business approach.

This is the same show that just did a full blown out celebration of an anchor’s bachelorette party and wedding. Michael is entitled to his privacy but you can’t stop people from asking questions. Sadly there are different expectations of “privacy” for someone in a public profession.

I like the desk but I’m never going to stop complaining about how stupid the standing anchors look is.
