  1. Oh, this again. Fun fact: It's been longer since WPVI tried changing music (27 years) than it was from when they started using MCTYW to when they tried changing it (24 years.) Only on TVNT will a graphics package or set that's older than 5 years be declared "ancient", but a music package used for 50+ years is something that shouldn't be touched. A lot has changed in the last 27 years (namely declining viewership!) and I suspect that a subtle modernization of the music (the 1996 version was anything but subtle, it was a drastic change that tried to make MCTYW into a serious, The Mission-style orchestral news package, which it is definitely not) wouldn't result in the "riots in the street" people around here like to imagine happening. We know they have selection of 615-made cuts they've been using for a few years now, I would imagine most viewers are now used to hearing "the music" that's not specifically the 1972 version.

  2. Let's hope Move Closer to Your World doesn't get yanked off the air. And let's hope those Happy People visuals don't go away either. All in favor of those new ABC O&O graphics for WPVI newscasts. Remember 1996 when all of Philly went apeshit over the symphonic version of MCTYW, which lasted five days on the air? Let's hope there are no riots in the streets when WPVI makes a visual refresh.

  3. WCPO uses their normal time/temp bug at 4:00 (that would be the top image). Not sure about WLEX, but WCPO's 4:00 show appears to be at least 30% live, 70% Scrippscast, so maybe that's why?

  4. Cincinnati media blogger John Kiesewetter did a piece on Scripps' pre-taped autopilot newscasts, particularly WCPO's 4PM shows: https://www.wvxu.org/media/2023-11-01/wcpo-tv-news-shows-scrippscast-tvkiese So apparently, they're using proprietary technology (!) called "Scrippscast" to do this. To me, it basically just sounds like glorified control room automation that's designed to cut costs and nothing more. Regarding WCPO, it's just their 4PM newscasts and their weekly FC Cincinnati sports show* using the "Scrippscast" software at the moment, but the article mentions that their Saturday 11PM newscasts will be next to go the mostly-anchorless route. And according to their news director (quoted at the end of the article), possibly more... *I should also point out that FC Cincinnati Weekly looked more-or-less like a traditional sports chat show, complete with pre-taped packages, last I checked.

  5. I believe that the only way to keep the Joe and Sandra duo would be to have them both at noon. David would do 4pm and 11pm (if Bill had only left at 11pm in the first place).

  6. I think CBS News and Stations got the new look done in a hurry compared to ABC O&Os

  7. If they're going to standardize, might it be the music too, except for the open?
