The time brokerage between the two stations started in 1994, and the terms of the TBA, while not allowable today, are grandfathered by the FCC because it was established before the federal government put new rules for the operation of TBAs/LMAs/etc. The transfer of WBBH from Waterman to Hearst included assigning the existing WZVN time brokerage agreement to Hearst.

  3. I would argue the brand has been successful for 34 years which is why they decided not to use CBS News Los Angeles on channel 9 where a bulk of the newscasts are aired. Even when the two stations became a duopoly, it was KCAL’s management that ran the combined operation.

Oh, I'm sure they did tell him the reason truly (likely that he refused to help any of the younger talent out of jealousy and anger that his low-effort anchoring was being replaced with actual personality), but he dismissed it out of hand in multiple evals and then when they pull the trigger he just dismissed it and then caught the Larry Conners Express to refuse to take any blame for his own demise. Putting all of this in writing in a legal filing just amplified it.

In the CNBC article that I shared, it said, In that case, Sony would have kept Paramount and the studios, while Apollo would have taken CBS - and likely would have started to sell it for parts like they have done with Cox stations, maybe even reorganizing Cox stations around CBS.
