  1. WAVY has an incredibly extensive archive. During their 50th anniversary in 2007, they posted a 30-minute special from 1989 about the history of the station and move to their new building on their website. Here are two newscasts from 1998... 11pm from January and 5pm from March (before and after the set change on Super Bowl Sunday)
  2. I'm in Nashville right now, and WTVF was using the old one the other day... they're using the new one now.
  3. Interesting info. I brought the similarity between the WTKR and WPRI themes to Mr. NMSA's attention a few years ago, and he could confirm the "Discover" and "Right at Home" image songs were both Klein &, but not the WPRI theme. I have a with the "Discover" theme I found long before that open surfaced. I originally thought it was the same as WPRI 1986, given their shared ownership and sound.
  4. Not sure if this has been brought up before, but... Take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb7IVxYjboM That sounds like VTS's "The Team to Watch" in the teaser. Maybe that's what the WSOC 1986 theme actually is?
  5. When does that usually start on the network side (logo bug)? Right after the new year?
  6. Wow... probably the most typical "turn of the decade" (1989-91) news open I've seen lately: The blue and pink, bevels, thick drop-shadows, and pixelated fades.
  7. WTKR noon open from 1986 with the "Discover the Land of the 3" theme. Probably the most simple open they've had, but I've been wanting to see this one for some time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrASY7XMyr8
  8. WWAY morning anchor Sarah Murphy has been diagnosed with cancer. http://www.wwaytv3.com/2015/09/25/gmcs-sarah-murphy-hopes-to-help-others-as-she-faces-cancer/
  9. This is what Image VII is based off of and was also used by WSET in the early 90s: "This is Virginia, so many sights to see, with friends that you can count on at WSET." I have it stored on a hard drive somewhere. Theirs wasn't nearly as polished as KCNC's.
  10. Pretty sure they were using the WSLS 1988 theme at the time, but the theme from the WBMG sample on the NMSA. Back when Charles Fishburne returned to anchor a newscast during their 60th anniversary celebration several years back, they played a snippet of the news open in the mid-80s.
  11. Interesting because the NMSA lists WSET as using that theme. They also list WNCT as using it too (not sure when that was added, I must not pay attention as well as I used to!). Must have been a Park thing?
  12. In this 1984 signoff, the script is nearly identical but with a different voiceover. Bad tape quality so I can't see what NBC logo is used. I'm assuming it's the same Proud N peacock. My guess is it was originally produced around 79/80 with the Proud N peacock, and they updated the station logo and voiceover every few years but kept everything else the same.
  13. Can't tell if it's a bad tape or if they don't know how the tracking button on their VCR works...
  14. Late rebroadcast of WAVY 11pm Saturday night news from October 1987: Includes a version of the "You're Covered" promo and the station signoff at the conclusion of the rebroadcast. Also, what was up with the abundance of fuel company ads in the late 80s?
  15. Last several minutes of a WDBJ newscast, July 4, 1993:
  16. Someone ID'd it to the NMSA as Finish Line by Network Music. WTKR used it on promos in 1991...
  17. WROC sports/close from February 1994 (Newswire!!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF6j1WspPSc
  18. WAVY promos from 1986... (Don Slater) (The Daily News weekend team)
  19. WTKR signoff from 1995: (What's most interesting to me is that the copy was generally unchanged !)
  20. Part 1 of a WTKR 11pm newscast from October 1995:
  21. Total News. So cool. So incredibly 90s.
  22. Here's WTKR's open from around the same time for comparison. It's pretty similar, just a little more fast-paced. This debuted in early 1992 (Jan/Feb)
  23. Bringing this one back up... must have been a very short-lived look. Their "Eyewitness News" look was different in July of '94
  24. WECT Carolina in the Morning open from 1994. Their early use of News Series 2000+ or whatever it's called these days.
