I wonder who did WTKR's graphics from that era... Looks similar to WSAZ around the same time with the map

This video includes some of WTKR's "Live at 9" show and a WVEC 5pm close from 1997.

Ava Hurdle is retiring after 37 years with WAVY-TV. Her last report was tonight. http://wavy.com/2015/01/07/ava-hurdle-retires-after-37-at-wavy-news/ Correct me if I'm wrong, but she's the second-longest-serving reporter in the Hampton Roads market, only surpassed by Nate Custer at WTKR (1966-2005).

Those updates came about 1990... maybe late 89. There are other Turn To updates only used by sole stations, like WMC... but those have the classic Gari early 90s sound. The later WVEC theme definitely has a unique sound.

They used that new(?) Spirit of Texas-ish theme to close the show. When Storm Mode is off we'll get a better idea of what cuts will be used regularly.

I was watching 13 this morning and was curious as to how this would pan out; if they would scrub the new graphics til 5 or not. WTKR and WAVY have been doing nonstop coverage all morning with no break.

WCTI 11pm news open 1998:

I assume Beverly Kidd will take over her anchor position? Guess we'll have to wait and find out.

VARTV reports Beverly Kidd is returning to WTKR in June. She reported/anchored for WTKR from 1993-2001 before going to KTVK in Phoenix.

All it takes it a lazy producer.

This may have very well been from 1981. Back in 2007, right before WAVY did their 50th anniversary special, someone edited the WAVY Wikipedia article putting 1982 as the switch date to that logo and The Daily News, much so that WAVY noted 1982 as the start date for that logo/name in their 50th special. After the special, WAVY uploaded an extensive amount of archive material to their website, including a newscast (sportscast?) that mentioned the then-ongoing 1981 MLB strike. I honestly believe the gold 10 and The Daily News began in 1981.

Seriously digging that WTKR stuff! I saw that News 3 open on TV Ark but it never had a year attached to it. Now we know, and that also means the NMSA is wrong on the dates there... it currently lists And You from 1984-86. I always thought those dates seemed wrong. By the looks of it, And You was gone by at least 1985.

There's actually a cut of the original series of Enforcer that sounds nearly identical to the ER theme.
