  1. I was digging through the US Copyright Office search, and found something on the "WTAE 1993 News Theme". It was written by Brad Kelley, who did work with VTS. Its record lists "For use by Columbia Pictures in the motion picture, Striking distance." The film is set in Pittsburgh, and the theme is prominently featured in the opening scene of the movie as Sally Wiggin delivers a news report. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=nJXy8RR4O1E;m=1;s=47
  2. Nice to hear those original Primetime News cuts still getting some love in 2016.
  3. Larry Stogner, former anchor at WTVD in Durham, has passed away after a battle with ALS. He was 69. http://abc11.com/news/larry-stogner-veteran-abc11-anchor-dies/1479868/
  4. WVEC from 1988... including an 11pm open I've never seen before! I think this open was used from 1988-1990
  5. CBS "Get Ready" promo for WTVR, 1990
  6. The now-defunct tvnewsthemes.net had a clip of a KWTV open/close from that era (1993)... that's where the "KWTV 1993 News Theme" in the NMSA comes from. It was a really neat open and theme... very 90s. Hope it resurfaces sometime.
  7. Same user uploaded KMBC's original Hearst-Argyle open (from 1998) with the claim that it began in 1995, which wouldn't be far-fetched because that's when those graphics began on WCVB, which raises the question... did KMBC ever actually use Newswire? I want to say it might have been listed on ASCAP but I've seen no video proof of Newswire on KMBC.
  8. WVEC/ABC promos from January 1992. Includes a news brief with Mike Lewis. Love that weird supposed "Turn To" update!
  9. I'd bet someone new will be hired to fill the spot. As for freelancers... Jim Lawrence, Cheryl Nelson, Karen Jones, or even Julie Wilcox could step in temporarily on the weekend while Evan or Iisha do Daybreak for a little while.
  10. After serving 19 years as WVEC's morning meteorologist, Craig Moeller is leaving the station for his hometown. He's been hired as chief meteorologist at KSDK in St. Louis. http://www.13newsnow.com/entertainment/television/13news-nows-craig-moeller-to-become-chief-meteorologist-in-st-louis/261603864
  11. It was 1981. Several years back around 2007, someone said "The Daily News" began in 1982 on Wikipedia, and the false info even made it into the 50th anniversary special.
  12. Was this WAVY image promo a VTS composition? It debuted with the 1985 theme that's been confirmed as VTS, and sounds like it has ties to the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL-Iw7wbXjY
  13. Matt Tacka's voice is still on the opens, but they have this different guy doing promos and the WGNT opens.
  14. Doubt it... I don't think either of them are picking up new clients. I think they'll retain the current voice guy, but if they do switch, my guess is Brian Lee because that's who WTVR uses.
  15. It's only verbal at the moment... I've been watching some of the live streams. Anchors and reporters are saying "News 3" now. Expect a big change soon.
  16. American Journal ending & WVEC 5:30 news from 11/1993:
  17. I just remember I had this... I pulled it from an old Harborfest newscast WAVY had on their website a few years ago. This is a longer sample of the bumper theme that sounds like "Tuesday2" (it probably is) https://www.dropbox.com/s/ff0b2abp4xcu937/wavy%201982%20theme.mp3?dl=0
  18. News clips of Glen Campbell's visits to Hampton Roads in 1988 and 1994, including the opens and closes. Includes a WTKR open from 1994 featuring the voice of longtime weatherman Andy Roberts:
  19. The accompanying image song resurfaced on youtube.
  20. Early days of WVBT's FOX 43 News at Ten from 1998: Is that actually David Kaye in the open?
  21. WVEC news from February 1997
  22. Found it... I was fairly certain it was Firstcom. It's called "Going Global" in their PowerPlay archive.
  23. Yup, that's it. It might be Megatrax. I've gotta dig deeper...
  24. From the same channel... KOMO weather promo from 1997: Anyone know what the production music track in that is called? I want to say it's Firstcom or Network Music; I found it online a while back, but the name slips my mind. I remember WAVY using the longer version of it on their midday news as a headline bed years ago.
  25. It's verbally mentioned as "WAVY News 10" too. From the aforementioned 1989 special, they had the new logo on the building when they moved into it in April of that year. They didn't start using it on-air until September.
