  1. Former WFOR CBS 4 anchor Shannon Hori will go by her married name of Cogan when she joins Louisville, KY, NBC affiliate WAVE as the 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. anchor on July 1. This will be a return to Louisville for Hori (Cogan), who worked as a morning anchor for the local CBS affiliate WLKY early in her career.

  2. Tulsa's KJRH NBC 2 Chief Meteorologist Dan Threlkeld will be leaving the station when his contract ends. Threlkeld's contract is up on August 30th, but he has no plans to move out of the area. Before coming to KJRH, he worked at KFOR in Oklahoma City for 17 years.

  3. Nexstar’s Salt Lake City duopoly, KTVX-KUCW, is getting a new look on Monday. The redesign is timed to coincide with KTVX’s 65th anniversary, the Salt Lake Tribune reports: The news set is getting a huge makeover. Viewers will quickly notice the new color scheme — pale green, purple-gray and orange-red. The set for “Good Things Utah” also is getting a completely new look, as well as a new focus.

“We’re going to embrace our legacy,” said Richard Doutre Jones, vice president and general manager of KTVX and sister station KUCW-Channel 30, in January. “Do you live in Utah? Then we care about you.”

  4. SoFlo Anchor is soon going to be looking for a job. Word is that WFOR in Miami is not going to renew the contract of their main Anchor Shannon Hori. Hori anchors the 5, 5:30 and 11PM newscasts at this CBS O&O. Sources tell FTVLive that the station is not renewing her contract.

Hori came to WFOR in June 2007 from KTVT/CBS 11/Dallas where she anchored the morning show. Before KTVT, Hori worked for six years at WESH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Orlando, where she anchored the weekday 5:30pm newscast and reported for the 11 pm news.

No word yet on who will replace her.

  5. Two big names in Dallas, TX and Cleveland, OH are saying farewell in April and May.

    • After 34 years at WFAA Channel 8, Brad Watson has announced his departure from the Dallas-Fort Worth ABC affiliate. Watson, who is a political reporter and anchor of the weekly “Inside Texas Politics,” announced on Twitter that he has accepted a job as the director of communications for Texas-based Luminant Power.
“There is no better job in local TV news than being a reporter at WFAA and informing the people of this great state. It has been an honor,” Watson tweeted Monday. In 2011, Watson made national headlines during an interview with President Obama when the President chided the veteran reporter to “let me finish my answers next time we do an interview.” Watson will bid adieu to WFAA in Mid-April.

    • WJW FOX 8 anchor Wilma Smith is leaving the Cleveland Fox affiliate, she announced on Monday evening’s newscasts.
“ I've loved every second I've worked here at Fox 8, and I've been in your homes for more than 20 years now, but I have decided that I want to spend more time with my gift from God, my husband Tom,” Smith said. “So I have decided to retire from the station at the end of May.”
Smith’s departure will cap off a 35-year career, all of it spent anchoring in Cleveland. She worked at ABC affiliate WEWS for 17 years before joining WJW in 1994. During her years at Channel 5, she was the co-host of "Afternoon Exchange" and "Live On 5." In 1983, she began co-anchoring the 11 p.m. newscast with Ted Henry. For the past eight years, Smith has anchored the 6 p.m. newscast alongside Lou Maglio. The station has not yet decided on a replacement for Smith.

  7. It is my duty to break sad news to news viewers to Tuscon, AZ and Sherman-Denison, TX. Randy Garsee, former anchor at KOLD News 13 (CBS) and KTEN News 10 (NBC) died. His family says he died peacefully in his home in Alexandria, Virginia.

After he left KTEN Garsee did some reporting for the military in the middle east, wrote a couple of books, and worked as a communications and public affairs advisor.

    Randy Garsee was 50.

We at TVNT offer our prayers and condolences to the Garsee family in this very difficult time.

  9. Sad news to report from Phoenix. Bill Close, a longtime anchor at KSAZ (then KOOL & KTSP) in Phoenix, died Sunday at 91. Close, who KSAZ calls “the Walter Cronkite of Phoenix,” was best known for an on-air incident in 1982 when a gunman entered the KOOL studios and held Close and his camera man, Louie Villa, hostage for five hours. Close negotiated with the gunman and read a “rambling” statement from him. The gunman eventually surrendered.

We here at TVNT offer our prayers and condolences to Bill's family, and Bill's colleagues at FOX 10. And as Bill always say when closing the evening newscast, "And brings us right up to date on the news, so for the KOOL (TV10) news team, Good Night."

Alhart anchors the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts and serves at the station’s associate news director. He has worked at WHAM for almost 50 years.

  12. It's a very sad, yet difficult day for many in the Houston area, and for the people at ABC 13 Eyewitness News.

In sad KTRK 13 related news, the day sportscaster Bob Allen is to sign off the station for good, we learn that former morning weatherman, Doug Brown, died last night according to an Ed Brandon Facebook post. He was 79 the station reported. Brown worked in the broadcasting business for 50 years. Stops included KWTX Waco, KRGV Weslaco, KHOU 11 and then of course a long career at KTRK.

He was a heck of a nice guy. What you saw on TV is was what you got in real life. He had a very calming presence. When I worked with him at KTRK, we would talk about Baylor University football.

Brown retired from channel 13 in February 2008. Casey Curry replaced Brown at the station.

We at TVNewsTalk offer our prayers and condolences to Doug Brown's family and the staff of KTRK ABC 13.

    RIP Doug and Godspeed.
