  1. Correct - WABC and ABC News are moving in 2025, after the election and inauguration are done. Right now, it is looking like a spring/summer move.
  2. Definitely a faux pas but I don’t think it was anything egregious. It seems like a private conversation in a private moment where George was not aware he was being recorded, unlike official appearances where he must maintain neutrally. Perhaps he could’ve answered differently but his answer was not anything too different from the line of questioning he had for the president during last week’s interview and certainly nothing too different from what most Americans are feeling. I’m glad to see that he and ABC issued quick, short statements. He was on Good Morning America this morning and he and the network appear to be moving on and not letting this become a bigger story than it should.
  3. I’m one of the longtime Good Morning America viewers who watch out of habit. I have watched since Joan Lunden and Charlie Gibson were co-anchors, survived the Lisa McRee and Kevin Newman experiment, and believe the current show is bad. I watch the first 10 minutes, especially if George is leading with big political news, then tune out. The show lost so much of the energy and appeal it once had. I still do not understand the concept of Michael Strahan as a news anchor. Robin Roberts seems to have unlimited days off. George should be given expanded time for hard news and political coverage. CBS Mornings has better news judgement. TODAY has better energy.
  4. Because at the time, ABC was a strong network and often finishing #1 in primetime thanks to hits like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and then Desperate Housewives, Lost, etc. a few years later. WABC was also trying to climb back to the top spot in news ratings after falling behind WNBC at 5pm and 6pm for the first time since the 1980s. (WNBC has just picked up Judge Judy from WCBS and Judy on Ch. 4 began beating Oprah on Ch. 7. As a result, WABC’s lost its longtime grip on the 4pm, 5pm and 6pm time slots.) Co-branding with a strong ABC made sense, and Disney/ABC wanted their owned stations branded as ABC. Eventually, ABC’s prime time hot streak ended after Millionaire was over scheduled and research found that New Yorkers never warmed up to identifying Eyewitness News with “ABC7”… it was and is identified with “Channel 7”. So, WABC reverted to Channel 7 for news branding and held on to ABC7 for non-news branding, thanks in part to Disney/ABC forcing the ABC co-branding. Because at the time of website launches, KABC was better known as ABC7 by LA area viewers. “ABC7” never existed nor caught on with New York area viewers, hence why WABC launched as 7online.com.
  5. They are hiring a weekend anchor/reporter.
  6. She’s been passed over so many times for a weekday gig.. she’s probably just phoning in most of the weekend work at this point.
  7. agree - the 10am talents are great and not cluttered
  8. The issue with the set is that WABC is not using it to its full potential. You can see just from the 10am show how versatile the set and the lighting elements are.. but it took them over 10 years to try anything different. Even the secondary area with the big screen for weather/traffic and interviews can look dramatically different with the flip of some switches. That said, I’m glad they made the switch to cleaner, brighter and better background images. It does give the set a minor but nice facelift to match the new graphics. As for @Vlad’s wish for the new HQ set to be a street side studio — sorry, there will be no street side studios at Disney/ABC’s Hudson Square campus.
  9. yes. Look likes it’s linked to live conditions.
  10. Sade is back on air today, filling in for Liz right now on the 4pm news. Lee gave her a quick welcome back at the top of the show as she tossed to him for a report on the upcoming storm.
  11. Yes, the skyline backdrops have been updated.
  12. Finally! It’s great to see on air at WABC. The news brief opens are better than the main opens that were made for the group. Also looks like they updated the backdrops to crisper images.
  13. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eeO_nJqoRg
  14. That is pretty bad for a news program. They should pretape these shows, have the on-duty anchor give a news update and fill the bulk with recycled and evergreen content.
  15. For the ones scheduled to work, it might be nice for them to have the ability to work from home in a separate room and then be with family in between shows and/or not have to worry about commuting to and from work.

  17. The whole concept of a live shot is deceptive 99% of the time. A reporter is “live” somewhere hours after the actual news event has occurred. Nothing newsworthy is shown to the viewer in a live shot. All the newsworthy content is shown in the prepackaged report with footage from hours ago. Whether they are live at the scene, on a generic street outside the studio, or at a place somewhat related to the location of the news story, the whole concept gives a deceptive sense of presence and urgency.
  18. They have had a few other days in recent months where the 4:30am half hour or hour was anchored solo. It’s not so much out of the ordinary these days.
  19. They had a 4pm long ago — “From the heart of the tri-state area, street level on 5th Avenue, with Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark…” — that was replaced by Judge Judy.
  20. It’s just how the schedule worked out this time. David and Liz have filled in at 11pm before.
  21. It is more likely that he gives up the 11pm.
  22. Liz is on at 11, too, along with Joe. They have not just the weekend morning and noon issue, but the expectation that Bill will soon scale back and give up at least one newscast.
  23. Agreed. A majority of people going to Times Square are NOT going to see the Good Morning America studio and a majority don’t even realize that’s where Good Morning America is. WABC is also not an attraction in Lincoln Square. Lincoln Center is the main attraction. The street side WABC studio is kind of cool walk by for some, most others don’t even care or know that it exists there. I’m sure the local residents and business owners will miss seeing the staff from ABC and WABC each day, but that’s about it.
  24. I’m surprised that the GMA staffers are surprised! Yes, Disney originally said GMA would remain in Times Square but, with a brand new Disney/ABC building being built downtown, how long did they really think that would last?
  25. Radio could be it! Bill Evans just posted a photo of him and Ken together. Perhaps Ken is jointing Bill’s radio station in Sag Harbor?
