I wonder what will happen to the Fort Lee studios.  They were once CNBC and America's Talking which became MSNBC before T47 moved in after CNBC moved up Rt. 9W to Englewood Cliffs.  I believe it is WNBCs NJ Bureau and where some news gathering trucks are parked.  Is there any studio space left at 30 Rock?

MLB Network is in that space. Wiki says so is NHL Network.

Unless I'm mistaken and NBC used two NJ locations.

I thought that last week's scaled-back schedule might be due to the holidays, but now it seems that last week's schedule change might be permanent? Both last week and today, live programming ended at 8pm ET every weeknight. No America's Weather Tonight, and no Fox Weather Wild. The latter show just did that one special Christmas episode on December 23rd, and that was it. No other episodes since December 9th.

The 9am-12pm ET block is still called Fox Weather Sunrise. Looks like the silly Sky Dome branding is gone for good. That's about the only one of these changes I can get behind. Otherwise, the fact that the amount of live hours per day is cut down to just 6 hours in the morning every day and 5 hours in the afternoon on weekdays...not good.

Also effective today 1/3, the network moved from simple social distancing (implemented on 12/22) where each meteorologist hosted from a separate side of the main studio, to now exercising full separation of the meteorologists in separate rooms. For the whole day today, they had only one meteorologist in the main studio while the other meteorologist hosted from the stand-up podium near the behind-the-scenes weather center.

Perhaps they are dealing with their own COVID outbreak and staffing levels are impacted?

  3. I wish there would be a Local Forcast based on IP location. The best was The Weather Network’s live stream that included a LDL and a Local on the 8s-like Forecast.

I know The Weather Channel Android app can do a local bottom line, but you’d think more apps would take advantage.

Appears Fox Weather had an accidental soft-launch on FS2 this afternoon (FS2 has since went back to regular programming)

Purely idle speculation, but could Fox consider dumping FS2 for Fox Weather?

Also, @Georgie56that YT link is set to private.

  5.

The Fox Weather/The Weather Live unlisted Youtube link shared earlier in the thread has updated graphics like the ones in the Variety article. Before they looked more like standard FNC graphics.

Actually, there's now an America Live Weather stream that has the graphics previously used on the Fox Weather stream, with a look very much in line with the Fox News Channel logo, so I wonder if that's going to pop up on FNC.

You guys really don't want NewsNation to succeed, do you?

Like, I get the ratings on TV aren't great, but look at the YouTube views (and potentially the recordings people may have made on Hulu or YouTube TV); not to mention how many hits the app and website have.

Ok, let’s take a look at the YouTube views. I see a couple with views in the thousands, but many are under 1,000 views, some don’t even have 500.

EDIT: I even flipped it to Most Popular and the numbers aren’t that exciting. Only one with over a million views, four  over 500K.

I don’t know what any potential recording numbers might be. Does anyone release Live +7 numbers for NN? How much of their content is worth saving or binging?

    I also don’t know their app/website activity.

If you do, please feel free to share what you have.

It’s not that I don’t want NN to succeed, but they’re not exactly doing anything particularly exciting or different, so what’s the point of it? Did the world need yet another talking head channel?

Better question would be how does NN's numbers compare to once upon a time when WGNA just simulcasted WGN's Noon and 9pm news?

Likely far less, but it would be an apples to oranges comparison IMO since those newscasts haven’t aired on the former WGNA since 2014.

  8. Looks good to me. MSNBC desperately needed a refresh and all the different looks for different stories was a mess, IMO.

The only thing that surprises me is that the refreshed logo on-air is NOT the same as the one that’s been online and on the NBC News app for a while now. Very similar, but you can tell the difference by the Cs.

Sinclair won't be making the RSNs available to unauthenticated users. Per Ripley's quote, the DTC option "will allow an unauthenticated user the ability to access and even subscribe to certain content from our RSNs, as well as other unique content."

I bolded the important part. Just certain content will be available to people who can't authenticate. I'm pretty sure that means MLB/NBA/NHL games won't be available that way. It'll likely be just pre/postgame shows and other studio shows/non-game programming. That's a key distinction to make.

The only reason I would even consider subscribing to this would be to catch Pelicans games I can't currently get streaming in market on NBA League Pass since YouTube TV dropped the RSNs. If they don't have the games, there's no point.

Not really interested in this either:

I found a new potential factor in the future of NBCSN, Comcast is looking to relaunch G4 in 2021, with that, they may need NBCSN's transponder space in order to make this happen and possibly justifying NBCSN's current programming moving to USA, CNBC, or Peacock.

On their own website, it says G4 is a digital first network, which means it's likely going to be a live channel on Peacock and possibily a live stream on Twitch and Youtube. Why they heck would they want to put a gamer-first channel on a distribution platform their audience is moving away from?

Is there a particular fetish here for NBCSN to go away or something?

  11. First off, let’s pump the brakes a bit about NBCSN closing - the article cited is making predictions for 2021, it’s not a guarantee. The reasons given for closing it down makes sense, but it’s an informed opinion more so than a lock.

As for why business networks were used for overflow sports programming, that’s simple - they had greater penetration, especially CNBC.

Butchering local town & landmark names while a tornado bears down on the viewing public. Anybody wanna take a crack at pronouncing "Schuylkill River"?

Yes, 3000 miles away they will still be able to harness the technology to pinpoint the path of a storm and give viewers pertinent information, but when they can't pronounce your town, I get the feeling that some folks will turn the channel.

That's when whomever remains in the local markets provides a "cheat sheet" of tricky pronunciations.

Or the met uses other landmarks to identify the path and avoids the one he's not sure of. It's not like a new local met in a new market wouldn't run that risk.

Now, where this becomes an issue is - with any hubbing efforts - is the fact the satellite met doesn't know the history of the area, where the trouble spots are, and how they've handled severe weather in the past - that good ol' fashioned "local knowledge".  A lot of executives seem to feel the appearance of news/weather/etc. is actually providing a service.

  13. Can't wait for the Trump Golf Course Forecast followed by a rundown of severe weather warning areas drawn on maps with magic marker.

In all seriousness, I wonder if this might move Accuweather to make their channel (if it still exists) an over-the-top streaming service, or if The Weather Channel will offer a more weather-focused version of Local Now. Also, can't think Weathernation's very happy about it.

I liked The Weather Network out of Canada's streaming offering they had a while back - it had TWC-esque local forecasts and everything - but it just up and disappeared one day from their app.
