  1. Well the KCWX PRM is back on again.

I think the reason they withdrew was that they the forgot to attach the actual "petition for rulemaking" PDF. They only posted the engineering part.

So on page 1-2 of the petition PDF, it stated this:

    Quote

Corridor is requesting this change to high-band VHF Channel 8 as the best possible alternative to resolve the reception issues faced by the Fredericksburg viewers. However, should a UHF channel become available during the pendency of this Petition, Corridor alternatively requests placement on such channel.

So if a UHF allotment is not available now, why expect it be available later.......

  2. New M&A. Looks like Gray is LP-picking again.

They're acquiring some un-built permits of ten LPs owned by HC2 Holdings for $475K.

    • K24NY-D Paragould, AR
    • W23EF-D Tallahassee, FL
    • W20DW-D Clarksdale, MS
    • WDDY-LD Jackson, TN
    • WHJK-LD Jackson, TN
    • KMZB-LD Amarillo, TX
    • K31PR-D Tyler, TX
    • W33DH-D Eau Claire, WI
    • W14ER-D Eau Claire, WI
    • W31EV-D Wausau, WI
  3. New PRM. But this station is staying on VHF.

Fredericksburg, TX's KCWX wants to vacate RF 5 for RF 8.

For one thing, getting off the VHF-low is an improvement. But I doubt anyone from Austin or San Antonio would pick up the Channel 8 signal without getting a good antenna.

I thought that keeping WEAR/WPMI separate was a condition of the FCC approving the sale of WPMI from Newport, outside of emergency situations?

The FCC greenlighted the Newport deals without any conditions.

Nexstar surely didn't keep KARK & KLRT separate in Central Arkansas.......

  5. We have a Report & Order (R&O).

The FCC has greenlighted KOMU's channel change from VHF 8 to UHF 27.

They'll have one month to file a minor change application for a construction permit on their new allotment.

Tegna's KARE (31) & KPNX (18) just recently gotten permits for their UHF allotments last week.

And lastly, four PRMs have advanced into NPRMs yesterday (3/4).

Unrelated to channel changes, The FCC has greenlighted the WWCP transaction to Cunningham Broadcasting yesterday (3/4).

👀 Something I noticed at the end of the WTVY article:

Interesting that a station in market 172 commissioned a custom soundtrack, unless they're talking about a few updates to an existing package. I guess we'll see Thursday.

Ain't nothing custom about it. They're using Guardian.

  7. And it looks like the Lighthouse are going pack it in with eight streams (Ion & the 7 subs) on the Ion spectrum (once those contracts from the other distributors run out). As what Lisa Knutson said:

    Quote

“By creating compelling new network programming to distribute through ION’s spectrum, Scripps is expanding the ways it creates value from our ownership of ION and its powerful distribution platform.”

1 hour ago, T.L. Hughes said:

At this rate, it seems like the only place to put Defy and Doozy on the Ion/INYO stations is on the slots housing HSN or QVC, or just cut deals for the new networks to replace the duplicate Katz Networks affiliations on the non-Scripps and non-INYO stations in markets where either group owns an Ion station.

I'm surprised they didn't eliminate HSN/QVC while they canned Qubo & Ion Plus over the weekend.

Filed on New Year's Eve (12/31/20) is a Transfer of Control application of Standard Media from McDermott Communications to Community News Media, LLC (through a subsidiary Paducah Television Operations).

Community News Media is the same firm that's filing to acquire the two Sinclair stations in Paducah, KY (KBSI/WDKA).

Here's the organizational chart of the proposed change of guard of Standard Media.

Follow-up. The transfer was consummated yesterday (2/22).

  9. This probably explains why we didn't see Janet so often the last few years. Feder dropped this this morning:

    Quote

Her surprise post followed the station’s decision not to renew her contract as a freelance employee. Her status as a full-time employee ended in 2013 after ABC 7 cancelled her long-running weekly show “190 North.”

Would it be easier for Gray to move the KCBD NBC feed to the KLCW spectrum they just acquired?

I don't think that's their plan. Why would you want to move to KLCW spectrum when they can be on its own UHF frequency?

Along with moving UHF is to move from its current site to KJTV/KLCW's tower.
