1. Jerry is filling in for Phil tonight.
2. Why you want to put an LXTV show on at 9am? They don't want to compete with 7 on the 9am half-hour? In my view, that's pretty dumb. What's wrong with putting that show on after MTP or before the 6am news?
3. Okay, so check this out. Back last Thursday (7/27), the minority equity owners of the Corporate Media Consultants Group (owners of WPFO) filed a petition of reconsideration, stating they were unaware about the proposed transaction that occured back in 2013. They're basically saying that they weren't told that the station was being sold, and they just now finding it out (7/24), and have asked the FCC to rescind the 6/23 grant of the deal. I'm not sure how they're going to do it. The consummation notice was posted tonight, stating the deal was closed on Tuesday (8/1).
4. Unless they have big outdoor antennas on their roofs.
5. The WCAX deal was completed on Tuesday (8/1). Mount Mansfield TV.
6. I have a question. This is regarding KNEP NBC Scottsbluff. When did they change their virtual channel from 4.2 to 2.1?
7. INN/Media Gateway, huh. There in the same facility that use to housed the former HQ of Equity Broadcasting. Arkansas Business did a recent article about their operations.
8. At one point, when Tribune acquired This TV from Weigel, they would wait for the contract from a competing station in the market to expire. And then after that, it would be move it to the Tribune-owned station. KIAH doesn't carry This TV because KPRC is carrying it. And KSL is carrying This TV, instead of KSTU. So if the Lighthouse wants those diginets (the one that they don't have) on their air, they would likely have to wait until contracts expire.
9. Looks like Jummy is getting a co-anchor on the weekends. TVNewsCheck stated this morning that WTVJ news and sports anchor Adam Kuperstein will be the new weekend evening co-anchor/reporter at Channel 4. He will start in September.
10. New M&A. And to me, this is pretty big. KCSG in Utah is getting sold. The buyer, you would not believe it but I kid you not. It's Weigel Broadcasting for $1.1M. This is the very first time they have acquired a station outside of the markets they've served.
11. So Nexstar released its chief revenue officer Tom O'Brien. But has appointed Keith Hopkins as the new senior Vice President in Distribution.
12. Subchannel change. WRAL has acquired the Cozi TV affiliation. It will air on subchannel 5.2, beginning at noon today (7/31). The Heroes & Icons diginet is moving to an LP station, WIRP-LD 27.4. _______ So Atlanta Alive is now the Morning Rush? _______ Former WFOR Morning anchor Walter Makaula is now the new weekend evening anchor and reporter at KCRA. He'll start at the new station tomorrow.
13. So one day after Leon Bibb and Lee Jordan's final day on the air at WEWS, they were both honored with dedications at their retirement party yesterday (7/29).
14. So local is not allowed to use the "orange-striped sun" from the main Today logo? Using that instead of the peacock would've made more sense.
15. Although, I'm still against these crazy news expansions, I had a feeling that the 4am expansions was going to happen sooner or later. And since Early Today will be airing at 3:30am, that effectively opens up the floodgates for the NBC affiliates who want to make the purge to 4am in the future. WSTM in Syracuse has been airing the news at 4am for years, they could air Early Today next week. Wouldn't be surprise if CBS move its Morning News show to 3:30. My issue would be ABC. They produce World News Now from 1:30-3am (network starts airing it at 2am) and produce America This Morning live at 4am. If the network move ATM to 3:30am but keep the WNN time as is, that would leave just a 30 minute gap between the shows instead of an hour. It wouldn't be much time to breathe in between the shows, unless they start producing it earlier from 1-2:30am, but that would mean they would have to pre-tape Nightline every night (before 12:30am, if that's not already happening). Or, they could cut the blocks from three to two, and produce it 1:30-2:30. That way you keep the hour-gap. But then viewers in stations that air the program multiple times (3 times or more), might not feel right seeing the same program they just saw an hour earlier.
16. From the NY Post, Megyn Kelly Today will be the title of the new 9am show.
17. WHDH doesn't have news on the 8pm hour.
18. It'll "probably" be closed by next week, since it'll be the first week of August.
19. Here we go. Yet another news expansion. TVNewsCheck stated that on August 21st, KRON 4 will be adding a new 9pm show, making their lineup a "primetime news block" from 8-11pm. The 15-minute 11pm show will be eliminated. MyNetworkTV programming will be aired from 11pm-1am.
20. They've been so much talk about this, months before the Sinclair-Tribune deal was made. They even said they were going to launch a national cable channel, and as you see four years later, that hasn't happened. So I take this with a giant grain of sea salt. I'll believe it when I see it.
21. Tulsa's Scripps outlet KJRH has released its morning anchor pair of Taniya Wright and Daniel Winn. It's a shocker when you get fired before the end of sweeps. Now the station is looking for replacements.
22. Rielle has resurfaced. She's now at WFOR.
23. The only time I see them do a solo broadcast, is if when they air the late news after a primetime sporting event, and that's only if it runs late.
24. New M&A. Back on April 20, Deerfield Media has bought K45CX-D in Park City, UT for $1.75M. The sale was greenlighted June 22. Even though they didn't form a JSA with Sinclair (they could've bought the station outright because the station is an LP), the Salt Lake Tribune said that they've made a partnership with Sinclair-owned KJZZ to air some of Park City TV's programming on KJZZ's signal.
25. So one station got rid of "The Now" (WRTV), and another one is starting it up. WKBW is launching "The Now" in September (could start airing on the 4th) at 7pm, after World News Tonight. Hannah Buehler will anchor the broadcast.
