1. Longtime WKRN anchor Anne Holt will be stepping down from the anchor desk at the end of the month, after nearly 37 years. She's not leaving the station entirely, as she'll be involved in other on-air & community projects for Channel 2.
2. An end of an era in the Northwest. It's lights out for NWCN. Video courtesy of Derek Austin from YT
3. Another Tegna departure. WWL's morning anchor Mike Hoss will be leaving the station after over 27 years. He announced his exit on his Facebook page on New Year's Day.
4. So WOLF-TV's Sinclair-produced "so-called" in-house newscasts has started. The reporters are reporting the news from PA. While the main anchor is anchoring from WSBT, which led to this giveaway..... So this leads to this question. Are they're pre-taping this 10pm show on WOLF-TV? Or are they're doing it live from separate studio. Because WSBT also produces its own 10pm program on its Fox subchannel.
5. Any other NBC affils airing "Chi-Town Rising" after NBC's NYE coverage? The only two I saw from the guides are WTMJ & KXAS. COZI is also simulcasting as well.
6. As we're coming towards the second anniversary of the CBS Indy switch, there's already been changes to the morning talent. Indianapolis Business Journal stated yesterday that WFMY reporter & anchor Frank Mickens has been hired as a new anchor of WTTV's morning newscast. He'll start early next year. This comes after the late fall departures of morning anchor Marianne Lyles, and traffic reporter Katie Solove. Solove became the new morning anchor at Lexington's WTVQ; while Lyles took a corporate communications job at a firm outside of Chicago. The station has also dealt with abysmal ratings in the mornings. During the November books, it was ranked last among the five local AM shows in the A25/54 demo; while its sister WXIN was on top.
7. And this article I just read from The Washington Post says it all.........
8. You might be getting tropo.
9. And Nexstar & MG are still waiting for the FCC greenlight. Here's a write-up from the B&C yesterday (12/20). At this rate, they might as well wait until after the auction is over. Nexstar had deals that lasted longer than this. The ComCorp deal lasted 20 months. So they can wait.
10. They've done that with the old set several times.
11. Mowry was on yesterday morning.
12. Yeah, Give Light And The People Will Find Their Own Way. But that light from that Lighthouse is surely sending people in the wrong direction. But yes, that's the Scripps Way.
13. Looks like the NMA might not have to go through the courts to overturn the NBCO ban. Congress is composing a bipartisan bill to repeal it.
14. Small news expansion. This one is in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Gray's LP Fox station WZAW is now airing a half-hour 4pm newscast. It is produced by its full-power CBS station WSAW.
15. Okay. We all heard last week that WSBT will be producing WNWO's newscasts. Now FTVLive posted this morning that Scranton's WOLF's Sinclair-produced newscast could also be produced out of WSBT. _______________________________________________ Follow-up regarding WWL's morning show 7-9am switch to WUPL this morning. On the promo it hinted a brand new look. Well, believe it or not, their brand new look is their brand new morning SET!!! And the vid below is WWL's first tease of CBS This Morning during the Eyewitness Morning News. 16. It's still an inconvenience nevertheless.
17. Yes, the whole block will now be aired on 54. But viewers are not being TOLD that. They're only being told that the 4:30-7am block is on 4, and then change it to 54 after 7am. They're not being told that the earlier block will be simulcasted on 54. You don't want to alienate the viewers on "The Mothership" (that's where the lion share of their ratings comes from). But it's already been done by removing the 7-9am block from the mothership. There'll no doubt be some viewer confusion come Monday morning. Just hope that 4 doesn't air CBS This Morning on the day of Mardi Gras.
18. Little follow up. Here's the promo of WWL's morning change. As mentioned before, WWL will air CBS This Morning starting this Monday at 7am, shifting the 7-9am block of its local AM news to its sister-station WUPL. But also mentioned in the promo that it will also have a "brand new look". Could this also mean WWL will finally get the tweaked L3s that the other Tegna stations are using in the mornings? You would think it would only be a matter of time before they give in to air CTM. But for a station with a morning show with heavy vieweship, this doesn't make it right. It is a shame that the station have to abide by the corporate master to air the national show on 4. I would've said different if their AM show was getting bad numbers, but obviously that wasn't the case. The show was top notch, and probably one of the best in the country. Corporate influence over station interest (& even viewer interest). Wouldn't be surprised if WVUE would benefit from this move.
19. No ruling yet from the FCC. And it'll likely won't be until after the spectrum auction. Nexstar requested for a waiver on the "quiet period" in hopes that the FCC can act on it while the auction is still going. And so far, the FCC hasn't budged. Nexstar has been operating the stations under an LMA since that deal was announced last year. And although the deal was greenlighted by the FCC in August, it hasn't been fully closed yet. So no, they don't have full ownership of the WVMH stations. They're probably waiting on the end of the MG deal so they can close both out at the same time.
20. That's a shame. They should've kept Andy on at 6:30 (it use to come on @ 4:30pm). #TooMuchNews
21. KXTV briefly used the old Gannett Rampage music for 5 sec. ID promos after the rebrand to "ABC 10" last year. Probably not a surprise. Because WCSH is the same station that still use a certain theme of an old Gari relic for its "Storm Center" snow coverage (Good News).
22. Small follow up. The D.C. Circuit has won the lottery of venue to hear the NMA & NAB cases. Prometheus (which want the ownership rules to be tightened) filed in the Third Circuit. Now all three cases will be consolidated, and be heard in D.C. Circuit.
23. They aired the #ThanksRon promos just a week before his last show at the end of May Books. So this was obviously no surprise.
24. And to no surprised, the NAB & the News Media Alliance (NMA) (the newspaper trade group) is suing the FCC over its recently approved Quadrennial Review. The NMA is suing to try to repeal its four-decade old Newspaper-Broadcast Cross-ownership ban, which they say its outdated.
25. As of now, the LP is already airing the Fox channel as an in-city repeater to the main signal. We don't know what Tanara Valley will do with the full signal once the sale is complete. And we don't know if that signal is going away or not until the auction is complete and the new table of allotments get posted.
