  1. First look at CNN's new severe weather bar. I'm guessing the same shape will be used for election results but it seems incredibly large for the little bit of information it's being used for right now. I'm also not a fan of the way things don't line up nicely in all situations.
  2. The ticker, sans time and temperature, popped up just in time for sports on the 6:00. (Just realized that it only showed scores and was only used for sports. It returned to the regular static look right after Otis wrapped.)
  3. I agree with you that it seems silly to make changes and then nearly revert all the way back after a short time. The main reason for this is that there has been a change in leadership again. The new guy wanted to make his mark on everything and had ideas for improvements. He was let go after just over a year and new new management, which was there under the original management, felt like fixing some things in their eyes, including the graphics and schedule again. I think most viewers won't notice this week's graphics adjustments... Many actually probably didn't even notice the big June 1st change since it was overall pretty similar.
  4. Congratulations to Donald Trump, who has been indicted under all four different CNN graphics variations since the spring. (Yes, I know this is beyond nerdy.)
  5. As for when the new primetime starts... Wolf Blitzer just congratulated Laura Coates on getting the 11:00 slot. He asked her when it starts and she said, "As soon as I can go live!" A few seconds later, after Wolf said that he loves her (it wasn't creepy at all the way he said it, despite how it may come across in my typing!), Laura said, "Wolf loves me! Let's start tonight!" And then Gloria Borger chimed in, "You might!" It seems that CNN is intending for the new primetime to start tonight (the promo made it seem like the new lineup is effective now) but they're also waiting for news on the former president's likely fourth criminal indictment so perhaps CNN's schedule is in flux tonight. However, Pamela Brown's 3:00 show did not begin today.
  6. Another update to the graphics again as of 9 a.m. Keeping the overall Licht graphics but everything is back to the Zucker placements: Show title, time, and Live. The lower third no longer has the red transitions, and reporters' names animate in again instead of seeming to appear on "another slide." The CNN logo is back in reporters' titles (instead of just text). Oh, and the ticker is back. Regarding the lineup changes: Interesting that Laura Coates finally gets her evening show after it being announced and then taken away. And the return of "NewsNight"! Surprised that Alisyn seems to be lost in the shuffle. Also interesting that women lead four of the five hours from 7 to midnight.
  7. CBS 2 CBS News New York has added the ticker/flipper, but only on the online stream so far. The TV broadcast continues to show the tickerless ticker. I don't understand why it took them so many months to edit the one that they used with the previous look, because it's largely the same, just designed to align with the new bug. And I still think it's pretty useless. I wish they'd focus on making the ticker local. Also, tighten up the animations so there aren't so many times where nothing is displayed. The hyper local 7-day forecasts for various towns across the region lack details. I'd rather something more like now/tonight/tomorrow (or now/today/tonight, depending on the time of day) so that they could fit some text descriptions and not ignore low temperatures. Sports scores should be limited to local teams so that viewers don't have to watch every game's score slowly flash by. Lottery results are also weird to me, and take up too much time. But it seems the tickers are pretty automatic. Just pulling data from feeds and headlines off the website (headlines that are sometimes extremely vague).
  8. WLNY actually appears to be running the same NCIS that's airing on WCBS/CBS Primetime. Do we think this was planned or a last-second scramble to fill airtime?
  9. Good question. I've been wondering about that, too. Seems like a strange concept that was probably a pet project of Licht's. But contracts have been signed so maybe CNN has to at least give it a try. Did they ever say which hour it would take over on Wednesdays? 9? 10?
  10. They seem to change their graphics very often. I guess they're really going all-in on the end-to-end lower-thirds.
  11. I have definitely been enjoying the team of Poppy and Phil. Phil is smart and energetic and works well with Poppy. Sometimes he gets a little too silly or off-topic when making a point, but I think that could be an easy fix. I wonder if we'll ever see the studio that was being built for CNN This Morning, and if it'll be saved for the relaunch of the show (or whatever replaces it).
  12. News 12 Long Island original Doug Geed signed off from the anchor desk last night. He will continue hosting the taped/on location "The East End" weekend show until the end of the year to help transition it to new hosts. Doug's also been using his Facebook and Instagram to showcase some of the behind-the-scenes people he's worked with. https://longisland.news12.com/doug-geed-signs-off-from-anchor-desk-after-37-years-at-news-12-long-island
  13. They really did some great work.
  14. I wish they'd learn how to turn the caps lock key off.
  15. I really appreciate the way CBS 2 handled a horrible situation today. They mentioned Elise briefly at the top of basically every newscast, but then got to the rest of the news, before going in depth and tossing to a longer tribute package. Cindy, in for Chris, was with Mary this morning. You can tell that Cindy and Elise were close. (Cindy is close with everyone.) John did a great job mixing in memories and positive thoughts with the weather. They played Elise's favorite songs as rejoins throughout the morning. At 5, they tossed to an updated version of the tribute. Then Tony Aiello had a nice package about Elise growing up in Mount Vernon and coming back home. That was followed by Dick (in for Maurice), Kristine and Lonnie sharing heartfelt memories and words at the desk together. At 6, Dana had her own tribute package, and then she, Dick and Lonnie reminisced about Elise again. A very emotional day but I think CBS 2 did Elise proud.
  16. Very shocked and sad to hear this tonight. I was an intern in the summer of 2007. There had recently been a piece in one of the papers about all the new weather hires (I believe three -- Elise, Lonnie and John -- had all just started within the previous few months). It was somewhat critical of the others but lavished praise on Elise. I ran into her in the hallway shortly after that came out, introduced myself, and said something like, "Congratulations on all the kind things said about you in the paper!" She said hello and kindly accepted the compliment but also noted how she didn't feel good about it because her colleagues didn't receive a similar response. I know it's a quick story but I was just impressed as a young intern at her humility and truly feeling like a member of a team. Elise leaves behind her daughter Grace and her husband Graig, who is a photojournalist at the station. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/remembering-our-beloved-colleague-elise-finch/
  17. I'm seeing a lot of sympathy going his way and anger at The Sun. There was apparently no crime committed and the "young person" in question says the story was rubbish.
  18. I don't like how they insert a name below the headline since the update a few weeks ago. On the old look, the headline would move up and the name would show up below. Now with the revised new look, there is a red wipe from left to right to unveil the change. It feels like it's a different slide in a presentation, tricking the eye that the entire banner has changed when it should be more obvious that the headline has just made room for the name. I'm hoping they are still working to adjust this. I also really dislike the flipper being in all caps.
  19. This has absolutely nothing to do with the First Amendment. The First Amendment does not guarantee anyone a specific platform, and there is no constitutional right to own a broadcast television license.
  20. Yeah, it seems to be more aimed at whether the owner should be allowed the privilege to own a local television station, not whether the specific station has screwed up. I doubt it will go anywhere but it is an interesting attempt to hold Fox accountable wherever possible.
  21. As expected, it seems CBS 2 just updated the two big video screens to get rid of the distracting bezel lines, which were outdated the instant this studio debuted years ago. It's possible the screen on the desk was also updated as it seems clearer to me, but I'm not positive. (The graphic on the desk seems pretty redundant with the background.. Would be nice to see something less repetitive.) Some less significant bezels remain.
  22. He is their media reporter writing for their media newsletter. He thought he was being clever tying the bolder font with a bolder direction. Perhaps you disagree. It's not just "some Trump tape from 2021." It is audio of the former president of the United States, currently under federal indictment, admitting that a document he was so cavalierly showing off to a writer was classified and that he could no longer declassify it. It completely blows up each of his public defenses since last August. Yes, it is news, and MSNBC led with it last night at 9. And don't worry, CNN devoted much coverage to Russia as well. The fact that it's from 2021 does not make it any less newsworthy. Hearing the former president say this stuff, instead of just reading transcripts, is rather incredible, and gives new insight into his tone and the tone of those around him. Any news organization wishes they had obtained this.
  23. Watters may be the dumbest and most lightweight host Fox has (and that's saying a lot).
  24. Looks like the graphics change has been implemented. Keeping the new graphics but making some adjustments: Person's name and title is again displayed under the headline, which is bolder. Locators have been squared off, as has been the CNN bug (except for the top-left corner, not pictured here), but the curves remain elsewhere. The flipper is now written in all caps and is often nearly impossible to read (I'm sure this will be addressed quickly). So definitely not the "back to the old style" that Dylan Byers reported but more of a hybrid adjusting the new design.
