This is kind of off topic, but I tuned in to KUSI recently to just see how the set looks in action, and they barely even show the set. They are still using a very tight 2 shot at the anchor desk, so you never see the desk. There are no pans, no stand ups; and then the only other shot I saw being used was of the interview set. Not sure if it has anything to do with construction of KSWB's set, but I just found it really odd. But aside from that, their product is awful. I was watching the morning news and they need new anchors immediately. Paul Rudy is not anchor material at all. Not sure if Lauren would be better with someone else, but at the very least, Paul needs to be relegated back to just sports. They really need help on the KUSI side.

This looks like a similar size and shape as KNSD's studio.

I'm watching KNBC right now and they mentioned they are committed to 24 hour coverage and they are borrowing reporters from across the country to help with coverage. Right now they have Dave Summers from KNSD reporting in Altadena.

Actully it’s nothing like KGTV’s current set. Nothing like the layout, anchor desk or weather set. The KGTV set was designed by Park Place. This set was designed by Sinclair’s in-house design team. It’s similar to KEYE, WLOS and a few other Sinclair stations.
Of course it's not the same layout, but this is my opinion. The desk is very similar (textures updated), the TV array behind the desk is very similar, the colors are just about the same (again textures updated, no use of all light boxes). And yes, I'm aware the sets have different designers, but for me the first thought that came to my mind was KGTV.

That's basically the 2024 update to KGTV's current 2012 set... Yikes... Can't believe that set is still being made all these years later.

I saw Nichelle Medina anchoring this morning on KNSD. After looking at her IG, seems permanent.
KNSD now seems to be where San Diego's former news personalities are landing.
I was just thinking about this and I feel like they must be prepping for Marianne to retire soon. Just speculation, there has been no announcement.

I look forward to KSWB getting them, they are in dire need of graphics overhaul. Unfortunately, I feel like they will be waiting until their new facilities are done.
A little off topic, but I have noticed some tweaks to the KUSI graphics since they moved into the KSWB building, like the adoption of the ticker and L3 animations.

That is the L3 for promos. At least that's when I see them in KNSD.
Something off topic, in the past week I've noticed KNSD running station ID's and very often. Almost every commercial break. And they've also started using the NBC chimes when presenting the extended forecast. Has some new mandates gone into effect?

What happened to Tony Shin? His bio is not on the stations website anymore.
He has resurfaced back in San Diego at KSWB. Caught him just now reporting.

Just saw the Instagram Reel. The framing elements is giving KCAL.
It wasn't giving KCAL at all to me. More like the former KCBS set.

Angelica Campos, most recently of KGTV, has joined KNSD/KUAN as a fill in meteorologist.

Yeah the new ABC O&O mandate has an element like this for bugs. I actually like it, it’s pretty utilitarian.
Not to make this a list thread, but NBC O&O's also use their live bug similarly with the location. They've done this with the last couple of packages.
So it is out there, and I do like their application of it minus the live tab on the L3.

I'm still curious as to who is filling that spot. I thought they were going with Sheena since she was working that shift for weeks, but now this week she is back to mornings. I'm thinking it'll be Francella, though Brooke is on today.
Continuing with the weather musical chairs, I saw Greg Bledsoe doing the weather this morning.

Well, I didn't see this coming. Christina Pascucci is running for US Senate:

I wonder where Dagmar Midcap over at KNSD has been. She hasn't been on air in over a month and they've literally had every weather personality at the station filling in. This week and last week it's been Sheena Parveen from mornings.
Update:
Dagmar is no longer with KNSD. They aired her goodbye message during the 4p news:
https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/nbc-7s-dagmar-midcap-says-goodbye/3319537/
All this week, KNSD will be airing the latest Down to Earth with Dagmar trip to Madagascar.

I hope KGTV is close to the front of the line for a new set. If they could at least do something about that black curtain that's to the left of the 3x3 array

Bill Gaines
Leon Smitherman
Fred Blankenship
Lisa Lake
Lauren Reynolds
Laura Castaneda
Bianca De La Garza
I didn't realize, if you go to the quick links on their website and select 7Oth anniversary, there's actually a lot of interviews with former personalities. Most seem to be short blurbs. Hopefully the full interviews are available somewhere.

Totally agree. Sadly, there really aren't that many on-air talent left that even remotely have the connection/association with the KGTV of the late 80s-early 00s when they were on top of their game.
This whole celebration seems like it was done in haste and on the cheap. Let's get a couple of sound bites, some b-roll and a few cheap decorations/logos and call it a day.
What a time to be alive!

KUSI new set
in Sets & Studios
Posted · Edited by Bsean
After doing that, I've realized that there wasn't anything more to see... LMAO
I also hope they keep the 360 degree desk. Maybe they get it updated to something similar to the KMSP set. Their set looks like the next evolution to the current KSWB set.
