  1. They have the two anchors at the main desk, and when available, a third anchor at the "breaking news desk" (the extra pod in the main studio). Toni Valliere was previously doing the "breaking news desk" anchor job, at least for a while.
  2. Part of me thinks this is still sort of temporary, although temporary may last for a while. By that, I mean that I wonder how long Kathy has before she starts thinking about retirement herself. I could see Joyce becoming Kathy's replacement as the female anchor with the most seniority; and they'd then pair her with a male anchor (Patrick, possibly, or someone from outside the station). Edit: Joyce was previously anchoring 5:00, fill-in at 6 and 10, as well as doing special projects.
  3. I don't think so. I think they're going to do an external search, looking for someone with a little more seniority.
  4. From what I recall, they do an abbreviated broadcast if time permits (even if they only have the time to do a story or two). If not, they scrub for east/central and go straight to local news. (I believe they still would offer a west coast World News in that instance.)
  5. I think that Cecilia subbed for David earlier in the week, so she probably took her normal shift off.
  6. They're real! I swear! I talked to someone who worked there once... but when I turned away for a second, he disappeared as if he were never there... it was the weirdest thing... I'll find them again someday...
  7. I think she does as well, but I don't think The View is the best fit for her. Since her days on Today, Katie appears to want to be a Serious Journalist , along the lines of a Diane Sawyer, and I don't think that The View furthers those goals, and the same applies for someone like Diane who has already made their name as a Serious Journalist . I think that Katie would admit that her talk show was a bit of a misstep; I think she thought it'd be something different than what it was. What they need is a breakfast newser, someone who can equally do entertainment/pop culture and more serious news, and someone whose career won't be negatively impacted by expressing a (occasionally unpopular) opinion on the news and events of the day.
  8. Although it is produced by an ABC affiliate and airs predominantly on ABC stations, it is not an ABC network program. It is syndicated by Disney-ABC Domestic Television.
  9. I like that open, but I prefer the Charles Gibson-era set. Beautiful colors worked into the set, and it provided so many good camera angles other than just the anchor in front of the big screen.
  10. Preempted by college football, as noted above.
  11. If they go back to World News Tonight... will they also bring back the classic World News Tonight music? I hope so... the current music is just so blah.
  12. If you sort of squint... it still wouldn't look anything like the Fox Tribune graphics.
  13. Interesting tonight on WISN. Matt Serwe flew over from fellow Hearst station KETV to do fill-in on weather. It's the first time I've seen them pull talent from other Hearst stations for fill-in help for the studio. Chief Meteorologist Mark Baden is on vacation this week, and Chris Gloninger (normally weekend evenings) filled in for him during the week. Normally one of the remaining morning meteorologists (Sally Severson [weekdays] and Jeremy Nelson [weekends]) would pull the weekend evening coverage shift, but apparently neither were available or willing.
  14. Yeah, that is indeed part of the standard Hearst graphics package. WISN uses that as well.
  15. I don't know if it is just a coincidence, but the style of WBAL's reminds me a lot of something that Milwaukee's NBC affiliate WTMJ would do. WTMJ's is different, of course, but were they to use WBAL's ticker exactly as is, it wouldn't look at all out of place. It seems to match Journal's graphics style quite well.
  16. I don't think it's all that standardized. I don't think WISN uses anything like that - I've never seen it, at least.
  17. Journal Broadcast Group is reorganizing. "Steve Wexler, formerly executive vice president of radio and television [in Milwaukee] and general manager of WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), will become executive vice president of the radio division... Debbie Turner, executive vice president and general manager of WTFV-TV in Nashville, will become executive vice president of television." http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/241552611.html
  18. Wow. I so disagree. About the only thing I don't like about Time Warner are their boxes, which are easily avoidable by buying a TiVo. Otherwise, I think they're a great cable company. From what I've heard, *anyone* else would be worse (not including Verizon FiOS, of course).
  19. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran down a lengthy list of people joining the Milwaukee news market: - Lane Kimble joins CBS affiliate WDJT as a reporter, previously from WJFW-TV Rhinelander, WI. - Bill Walsh joins WDJT as reporter/fill-in anchor, previously from WMEN-TV in Saginaw, MI. - Trey Daerr joins ABC affiliate WISN as sports anchor/reporter, previously from KNWA/KARK-TV in Fayetville, AR. - Toni Valliere joins WISN as anchor, previously from KSN-TV in Joplin, MO. - Chris Gloninger joins WISN as meteorologist/reporter, previously from WRGB-TV in Albany, NY. - Bret Lemoine joins FOX affiliate WITI as anchor, previously from WFRV-TV in Green Bay, WI. - Krystle Kacner joins WITI as reporter/video journalist/web contributor, previously from WHO-TV in Des Moines, OH. - Yona Gavino joins NBC affiliate WTMJ as reporter, previously from WLUC-TV in Marquette, MI - Shannon Sims joins WTMJ as reporter/anchor, previously from WKEF-TV in Dayton, OH.
  20. Lot of moves going on in Milwaukee: - Morning anchor Shawn Patrick has left FOX affiliate WITI. It appears that his contract was simply not renewed by the station. - Meteorologist Luke Sampe will leave ABC affiliate WISN at the end of July to become the chief meteorologist for WFRV, Green Bay's CBS affiliate. - Anchor/Reporter Shelby Croft will leave WISN in August and join Columbus, Ohio's CBS affiliate WBNS.
  21. Melissa McCrady, an anchor-reporter for WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, exits the station and TV news for a position as director of communications for the Mequon-Thiensville School District. Mequon and Thiensville are northern suburbs of Milwaukee. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/211026881.html
  22. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's TV/radio columnist Duane Dudek reports that WISN-TV weekend morning anchor and general assignment reporter Abe Lubetkin is exiting the station and TV news for a job with Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/209921351.html
  23. Wow. Very surprising. Personally, I think he still comes across as very green on-air. That said, kudos to him for getting a big opportunity.
