  1. Not related, but CW ads are showing up on Antenna TV.  Nexstar will do anything to cross promote itself.....I'm surprised that NewsNation promos haven't shown up there yet!

It's a little confusing because our MeTV station is owned by Nexstar (and airs their CW promos), alongside our independently run Antenna TV affiliate, making it clearly a Nexstar decision.

  2. If anything, the stations have to give up inventory (either paid or promotional) to show NewsNation ads.   For a station that is not clearly number #1, giving up this prime inventory may be something that could possibly make a difference for the positive.

And the cycle continues, it would even stranger if Gray were to then have their stations (not WANF) put WPCH on a sub-channel, that will never happen though.

I am thinking as it is centrally located in the western US, it is possible that they might be another Graphics hub, they could also build a newsroom there to build a western edition of Local News Live. Those are both possibilities. There is a long-shot possibility that they'll try to take the FOX affiliation from Scripps.

Another longshot possibility....take the NBC affiliation from KSL.

I know KSL has fallen in line after years of selectively preempting NBC content, but if they hint at any reservation of paying for NBC, Gray maybe more willing to....

More likely, Gray could set itself up to air Utah Jazz games.

  4. Obviously, The CW wouldn't have the marquee race on Memorial Day weekend, but carrying the other races leading up to it and any other series would be a benefit for WISH.

So even after the 500 itself moved to NBC, they still tape delay it in Indianapolis?

  5. Sinclair is dumping their free streaming service STIRR to another company, and has stripped basically all of their content from it.

    https://cordcuttersnews.com/sinclair-sells-its-free-streaming-service-stirr/

This leaves NewsON as the only OTT service that carries Sinclair stations.

I say good riddance.  It was a mess of mismatched content and never seemed to work right.   It had a lot of potential but like everything, Sinclair squandered it because, well....it's Sinclair.

  6. Nexstar's bulk deal with CBS is also up at the end of this year, and with CBS losing the SEC games, the affiliation in these markets is much less attractive than it was before.  I think NBC would be willing to affiliate with Nexstar in certain places and let CBS jump to the Sinclair station.

And one of these markets is Mobile.

  7. NBC is probably their weakest link.  Despite them owning stronger stations like WJAR, WCYB, WTOV and WJAC, they have weaker stations like WOAI, and self-created abominations like WPMI, WTWC, WEYI, WNWO and WNBW.  Despite WNWO and WTWC being the only ones Sinclair owns outright, it's a black eye on the markets these other stations serve.

NBC can't be too happy with them these days.  Even MSNBC recently eviscerated David Smith's recent purchase (and Sinclair in general) on Alex Wagner's show the other night.

While the whole group going away is unlikely, it may be like what happened with WJMN in Marquette.  If there's a more willing station to  take on NBC and provide a better path, NBC would happily oblige.  It happened years back (pre-Sinclair) to WRDC when Outlet plucked the Peacock to their-owned (at the time) WNCN after decades of failure in Raleigh-Durham.

This has a good chance of not just killing the Sun outright, but coupled with the $500M in legal fees from Diamond's bankruptcy case, could damn well be the death penalty for hundreds of television newsrooms across the country, if not a financial death penalty for David Smith and Sinclair as a whole.

And the tragedy in that is these local newsrooms and network affiliates.

Despite being run by Sinclair and pushing out all of their garbage, there are still a lot of talented, competent journalists they employ who know how to cover their communities, and are great at breaking their own stories that often uncover actual corruption.

According to a certain website that I cannot mention, the set will debut Tuesday, January 23 when they debut the new facility along with new evening anchor Scott Thuman.

Now that he'll be anchoring newscasts, will he still be doing his packages?   Or in this case, nodding in a camera as each station cuts to him "live" ?

  10. David Smith is a prime example of someone who has too much money and no idea (or malicious intent on) what to do with it. While the rest of the world is scraping for pennies trying to keep oligarchs like him from ruining anything they touch with all of their money.

The Sun is certainly running with that “local ownership” line, and I suppose “local ownership” is a tangible improvement compared to being owned by a hedge fund. But I’d bet any money that the editorial leanings and journalistic standards of the paper will be drastically different than they are now.

Hasn’t David Smith thrown enough money away already? Nobody was rooting for him to become dollar store Rupert Murdoch.

He needed something to do after giving the keys to Chris Ripley to blaze his own trail of incompetence and greed.

I"m curious...how many NBC affiliates (or station owners) opted not to show the pre-game special for the Miami/Kansas City game that's exclusively streaming on Peacock?

May have been isolated to Sinclair.  WPMI aired a 7pm CT newscast and WTOV aired one at 8 ET, pre-empting the special.

Not really broadcasting related, but certainly big news in Baltimore, even with the Sun's decline and influence. The sale and operation is independent of SBG, but the lack of regulatory muscle makes that a comically short hurdle to overcome.

A sad day in Baltimore, since the Sun was a vocal critic of David Smith and his escalation of Sinclair into a national powerhouse of propaganda.  Given their current state under Alden, it sadly may actually be an improvement, since the paper is once again under "local" ownership.

Looking at FOX4 ft Myers there are no on screen anchors just voice over only MMJ packages and voice over only VO/Sots

It's pretty sad that a company as deeply rooted as Scripps is doing this at their TV stations across the country.

  16. And Nexstar found a way to weasel their way back into the Phoenix market.

Because trying to work out an arrangement with KASW would have been too obvious... Since they picked them up in the KTVK/KPHO merger and sold them to Scripps when they needed cap space to dump for the Tribune merger.

  17. It definitely has the FOX O&O vibe, at least with the font.

Once this package gets to the other markets (especially Pittsburgh and Charlotte) it will be a major improvement.  Both of those packages probably go all the way back to their launch in HD, which seems like an eternity.

All of this- and as long as there's advertisers and the channel is turning a profit on the balance sheet...

Also depends on how the channels are sold to advertisers.  If it's purely "added value" on a primary investment....
