As a moderator, this thread will be locked if people can't stop repeating long-winded, tired stances. That goes for individuals on both sides of the argument. Failure to abide will result in timeouts.

    Understood?

Sorry, I had to get my piece in especially after hearing about @CalItalian2's rant. Enough is enough.

Some more FACTS about NewsNation. They make good laughs at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

Okay. I tried to mind my own business in retirement, but here we go:

You sir, have been without a doubt an negative nancy when it comes to NewsNation. I get it, you miss Matlock, In the Heat of the Night etc. Well guess what, Uncle Perry doesn't give a crap if you miss those shows. NewsNation, despite it being a failure is still making profit for Nexstar. So do us a favor, get out of this forum or we will have @Weetersor others throw you out. Capice!

Ahahahaha! No. We won't. TV stations are going to become less relevant over time.

Not in the sense of return to form of watching television (sorry, that ship had sailed), but in the sense of more variety in their programming or it can end up like AM NewsTalk Radio.

Sure, if they want to use it as part of the operating expenses or give it to shareholders as dividends.

I know it sucks for viewers who just want to be entertained (nee watch DVDs and BluRays), but time moves forward instead of backwards. Maybe in the next decade we could see a return to form.

I can't speak to the specifics, but from a rudimentary analysis, the collective number of staff hired on a per-station basis to produce an additional newscast is greater than that required to produce syndicated programming, especially with lower production costs like The List and Right This Minute as opposed to the former Arsenio Hall Show or Jeopardy. As a group like Scripps buys more stations, the overall savings further nets out.

This is why I fully expect Nexstar to produce a NewsNation AM newscast for all of their Fox, CW and MyNetTV affils. The investment made in NewsNation is already significant and has no signs of waning (though I would argue about value for the Nexstar, Inc. brand entirely, because it's not their core competency). Therefore a syndicated morning program would A. Reduce staffing needs at many Nexstar stations. B. Drive viewers to the NewsNation cable channel. It's really a no brainer to me. A PM national for those stations a half hour earlier, could drive people to the network as well, if used to tease stories you'll only see on the Network.

So in other words, it doesn't matter if a syndicated rerun (in which you can watch on streaming and physical media (re: DVD/BluRay) would bring higher viewers or say a syndicated talk show, in which the station has to slice it's revenue pie, with local programming (namely news), they get all the revenue and reinvest it in other properties like (newsvans, helicopters, drones), just to name a few.

Fair enough. I would have liked to have discussed the wisdom of that sort of business decision which isn’t geared to maximize profits but I’ve got a sour taste in my mouth now so forget it.

I would like to learn more about the decisions in terms of profit margins in buying syndicated programming versus producing an expanded newscast.

On Spectrum cable in Southern California, the on-screen channel guide listing still shows WGNA (and a very small blurry NewsNation logo that nobody can see). I have a 77" QLED tv in my bedroom and can hardly see it. Also, the Spectrum app lists just WGN AMERICA in the channel listings. How is anyone even supposed to find this joke news network?

I'm sure you can buy a champagne and celebrate the failure that is NewsNation. You're free to gloat.

It will. I promise. I have a new account and I will be more careful this time, taking out a lot of the 'questionable' stuff, but the Yakima, Seattle, Kansas City, Dallas, etc. news recordings + commercials will be back! Tonight I should be able to throw 30 or 40 videos up from the old account.

I started the VHS hobby about 7 or 8 years ago. I used to live in Snohomish County, north of Seattle. I moved out to Yakima in December 2013, and then to my current spot (Ellensburg, WA) in September 2019. This is one strange hobby for the general population, but in the end it's one that they will appreciate. Like I said, I've gotten replies from former Yakima TV employees thanking me for uploading videos, and it makes me smile.

Big fan of your channel by the way. This alone is one of the reasons why I've been adding sketches and comedy bits to the commercial blocks. (Yes, we're talking about the Off-Air Circus Troupe i.e. the mimes, etc.)

I'm curious why you brought up the Viacom lawsuit?

The lawsuit was historic simply due to the fact that User Generated Content and Safe Harbor provisions constitute for fair use. So if the management at WPLG Inc., (BH Media) feels that the value of an old newscast would diminish the value of its current newscasts (or probabbly some of the former anchors don't want their likenesses there), then that's another story for another time. Overall, this is a setback, but WPLG is within their rights.

And it's probably over money that they believe they're losing. Seems very greedy on their part, over material that will never see the light of day again.

Actually, WPLG's doing well in the ratings and with the recent deal with WSFL, it's not much of a loss. But as far as archival footage is concerned, there are far more things they should be worried about instead of cracking down on YouTubers, see Viacom v. Google.

This!! They could easily run Press Your Luck and Pyramid or Card Sharks as half hour versions. All Press Your Luck has to do is cut the Bonus Round. Pyramid or Card Sharks can become single runs. Actually the best idea for ABC would be to launch a game show block to counter The Price is Right at 11am and move The View to 1pm or swap it with General Hospital and have The View counter The Talk. I'm sure The View gets crushed at 11am by TPIR. Really the only show that ever really came close to countering TPIR was when NBC ran Wheel of Fortune against it in the 80s.

Maybe....I supposed that would work given that most syndicated talk shows are relegated to FOX/CW/MNT stations, but unless some GM wanted to expand morning news...that's a possibility.....

Yeah I wonder what the News department will look like the scenario that they have graphics. I’m already wondering if Scripps is doing news updates from other markets to WSFL, I know in Raleigh Sinclair did news updates for WRDC side of the WLFL/WRDC duopoly. Since WLFL has it news done of course and produced by WTVD ABC11 in Raleigh at 10 o’clock. It was produced (WRDC Update) by WYSX ABC6 Columbus. So I think that there target date of launching a newscasts on WSFL may be delayed to maybe by late this year or even next year. Probably I can see the newscast from 4:30-9 a.m and 10 P.M. to 11 P.M..

I know WFTX did weather with Trent Aric formerly of WPLG on WSFL as for the newscasts likely bumping out the syndie sitcom reruns for a local news block.

What the fuck? ANOTHER rebrand? 🤦‍♂️

I don't remember the last time WSFL-TV has ever put their OTA number as just using "SFL-TV" or "SFL" or some crap like that. Back when they were WB39, it was just that, WB39.

It appears this user is Bandicam-ing their stuff and re-uploading to Youtube. Not cool, bro.

What do you use to capture 60fps? I would love to transition to this for my uploads at some point.

I originally used my MiniDV camcorder and transfered it to Premiere/FCPX and set the timeline at 60 frames instead of 30 frames per second.
