Seems like something they should have done leading up to the rebrand, not a few months after the rebrand. Very strange to be stuck on a temp set while trying to grow the new branding.

    One would think so, right?!

I feel like that’s how things “used to be” - make a big splash with a whole new look - set, graphics, music, logo, etc.  Now, those kind of launches are rare and it’s all done piecemeal without a strategy behind it.

  2. Tucker doesn’t need to work another day in his life.  He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so I would be stunned if he ended up on NewsNation to deal with the “confines” of cable news.

My best guess is that he goes independent with a podcast a la Megyn Kelly.  OR - he goes to Daily Wire or the Blaze.

Staggered launch..not sure why Gray did it this way, but looks promising. I haven't been a fan of the logo in a LONG time. Wish they would have brought this one back.

I agree - there’s a reason WSAZ hasn’t changed their Microgramma logo in decades.  It’s timeless.

  4. Not really noteworthy for its own thread in the “Sets” forum, but WBNS added a row of monitors (on wheels) behind the anchors for their “home base” shot.  They also appear to have refreshed the anchor desk. A cheap way to refresh a set that debuted in October 2012…more than 10 years ago.

After watching the newscasts, I feel Amyre and Jeff are a much better anchor team.

I also like Amyre as an anchor - I remember her time at WLIO in Lima.  Plus, she clearly has a Detroit connection.

I hope she continues to have a role as primary fill-in - even after (presumably - I’m speculating) Sandra Ali joins from WDIV.

I wonder if Yolanda had anything to do with recruiting him. I guess he was still living in Powell, according to LinkedIn.

That Andrew kid has some potential. Good voice, good presentation skills, he just seems out of place there. He would be more at home at a place like Channel 6. Channel 10 is just too serious for someone like him. I also never like when they pair a young guy with an old woman. It just doesn't flow well for some reason.

That actually makes sense.  In an alternate reality where Dispatch owned 10TV, they would’ve snagged Bill Kelly from WJLA and he’d be coming back to Columbus instead of going to KYW.  (The recycling and trading of talent across stations is prevalent in Columbus.)

I actually much preferred Andrew Kinsey with Melissa Andrews when they were on WTOL mornings.  It helps that they were legitimately friends off-camera.

But, the “older lady younger guy” trend is big in Ohio with Paula Toti/Kyle Inskeep at WKRC, Colleen Marshall/Kerry Charles at WCMH and Kinsey/Harris at ‘BNS.

That was quick. Makes me wonder if she got whacked. I wonder if she just sucked at meteorology, which shouldn't really matter since, after all, it's only tv. It's not like these guys are forecasting to plan for troop invasions or anything like that.

During his last gig, I remember him being a nice enough guy, but he didn't have any kind of an "it" factor. Just another boring everyman TV personality. He should fit in very well over there.

I hope he doesn't like racy pictures of prepubescents. (That was a joke by the way.)

I’m not sure. It will depend on how “exciting” her opportunity is once she reveals it.  I wasn’t really a Baracy fan - she fell into the position after a series of tragic and unfortunate events.

The overall reaction on Facebook seems mixed, with folks wanting Ross Caruso promoted.

Really though, Martz is a solid addition. It reunites him with Yolanda Harris and brings a bit more…gravitas to a 10TV that sorely sorely needs it.   Now if they can persuade Jeff Hogan to come back and ditch Andrew Kinsey… #WishfulThinking

Ashlee Baracy is gone from WBNS. I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

But then again, her husband is a coach with the Baltimore Orioles. Could she be going to work for Sinclair after her non-compete is over?

I’d say this is a loss.  Not that Baracy was a necessarily a big name - she kinda “lucked into” her role after the death of Chris Bradley followed shortly by the Mike Davis debacle.  But seriously, who’s left?  Jeff Booth left over the summer amid some mysterious circumstances.

I’ve said this before, but WBNS is just SAD.

It will be the end of an era when one or both retire as they've been the only duo since I started following the news.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them retire together…and you’re right, that would officially mark the end of an era in the Toledo market.  Diane bridges the generational gap between “legends” like Gordon Ward/Don Edwards/Jeff Heitz and the current state of Toledo as a “starter market” for TV.

Diane Larson is SOLID.  She brings a level of class to the Toledo market that will never be seen again.  When Diane and Lee retire, I speculate that the playing field levels a bit with WTOL. (Especially if WTOL keeps the Melissa Andrews/Jeff Smith pairing going - though Melissa Andrews is NO Diane Larson, or Chrys Peterson for that matter…but I digress.)

News from Indianapolis: The WTHR Helipad is no more. Chopper 13 is said to have gone away around lockdown. For those keeping track, all the Indy stations do not have a chopper.

Looks like a metaphor for what TEGNA has done to WTHR (and WBNS for that matter) since taking over. The Dispatch stations are just SAD under TEGNA.

Megan Mitchell is joining WFAA from WLWT starting in January.

Thats a bummer, she had quite the following in Cincinnati and beyond. She could’ve easily slid right into the weekday morning seat and co-anchor with Kelly Rippin, especially since Colin Mayfield, just left for WCNC. I imagine WLWT tried to keep her, so it must have really been her choice. Just not sure it was smart to go from Hearst to TEGNA…

    Tell that to the networks/cable....

I think having different names, so long as the content and presentation is different, is a good thing. It shows differentiation and gives viewers a chance to latch on to a show that they like. If everything is just "x news"....then most people will think, seen it once, seen them all.

I’m not sure that’s what’s happening here though.  We will have to see if “What’s Now” has a different vibe than “What’s New.”

The 6pm show and “Front Row” at 7 are different from one another.  But having so

many “What’s” names doesn’t really differentiate these newscasts.

I’d almost rather have something like “Friends at Four (or Five)” - like sister station WLTX…

I don't have a problem with them moving Jay and Betsy up an hour to 4pm. They're a really good team, and they'd be foolish to break them up. Still think the names of the newscasts are stupid. 3News at 4 & 5 are completely axceptable. But again, this is WKYC we're talking about lol.

It’s silly…just go back to “Channel 3 News.”

One notable thing is Sara Shookman’s sharp decline in having any sort of presence here. As recently as 2018, she was the main anchor and now has been relegated to 7pm - and gets pushed out by Christi Paul and Carmen Blackwell.

  14. Not sure if this is the best fit, I was thinking WEWS.

Argh - WKYC is already a bit “bloated” with talent, with Betsy Kling quasi-anchoring at 5, Laura Caso at 6/11 and poor Sara Shookman relegated to a half hour at 7pm…  (Not to mention the presumably hefty price tag that comes with Jay Crawford and Russ Mitchell.)

Now, with Christi at 4 - a new slot for 3, who is she “replacing”?
