I think the biggest question is what is this graphic saved/listed under in their system? That could rectify whether or not this was intentional. Maybe they, as well as others, should just keep things simple by not using any symbols of any kind besides a Christmas tree, Turkey and a pumpkin every now and then.

Easy....She's too old. They are thinking about/planning for the future. Tellez is 52 with 25 years of experience in this market which holds very little value these days sadly. Johnson should have been tossed out as well, but I guess that would be too much for WBBM to handle/overcome.

He had a contributor role once before on the morning newscast (during the Bob Sirott-era) and even filled in for him from time to time. That said, this isn't much of a surprise. While the move to 4A is a given, hopefully more changes are on tap.
-
But did they also appear on both the New Year's Eve and Auto Show specials too? She's 3 for 3 (not counting parades and Cubs broadcasts). It seems unnecessary.
-
While it's not their style, I would love to see WMAQ respond to this featuring Kye (weekday mornings traffic anchor) and Marley (weekend mornings traffic anchor). Heck..they could throw Mike in there too.
-
Not to mention someone who can offer a fresh perspective (despite being an insider).
-
Yes...Patrasso was interim EP following Selip's departure and was passed over for the job (which went to another insider). She thus decided it was time to move on.

Joel Weisman is a pretty good agent to have. Whittaker has a solid track record at WMAQ (17+ yrs.) so I trust that he knows what he's doing/who to hire. We will see on August 11.

The lighting is a huge improvement. It looks like they left no stone unturned replacing/upgrading everything everywhere. However, they haven't shown (to my knowledge) the interview/performance space nor the area where the touchscreen tv monitor lives, so it's unclear what's going on on that side of the set.

Yes Alicia said last night that Byron would be with Andy this morning and she will be with Brant tonight. Yes

I happened to catch a bit of the Noon newscast and in the middle of a story Darlene was talking about, the video/audio feed switched to one of the cameras in the studio. For nearly 3 minutes, we got to see Tammie working at the weather center practically in the dark because of the lighting upgrade (or whatever they're doing) in the studio. Then out of the blue, some guy (an electrician maybe) steps into frame, looks up at the ceiling and walks away before they cut to commercial. Of course they don't mentioned this incident after the break as this stuff is the new normal apparently. I can't understand why they keep having so many technical issues.

I'm just not convinced Alan gets the job. By the time Ron retires, he'll be closing in on 60 years of age and nearly 40 years at WLS. Plus, there is no apparent indication WLS management gives a damn about advancing those of a certain age no matter what. The Elgas hire throws a lot of things off...Does Alan get promoted or not? Does Ravi move to weekday afternoons/evenings and succeeds Ron or Alan? And if not, why not??? Is Rob willing to wait 12-15+ years to take the top spot if he doesnt get it the first time around? And what about Terrell? There is so much up in the air that it will definitely be interesting to see how things pan out.

Maybe saving face isn't the best way of putting this situation. I think it was a mistake for him to leave NBC 5 without lining something else up first. Honestly, what harm is there in being patient and waiting for the right opportunity to arise? Yeah...he has a job at WLS, but unless he succeeds Ron or gets a job at ABC News, Fusion, etc...it's a wasted effort. Both WBBM and WFLD are wastelands and no one in the right mind would ever consider working for them.
-
I figured (and previously said) a national correspondent job was a natural fit for him. Seems like he left WMAQ at the wrong time and to save face, decided to take a job at WLS.
-
No. WLS doesn't need another anchor, but this seems like a clear sign that when Ron retires, Elgas is going to take his place. Why else would he leave WMAQ? Guess he didn't want to wait around until Stafford retires. Alan is the odd man out and maybe even Ravi (as far as succeeding Ron).

For one, it's summer so they likely want to take off right after GDC is over to do other things. I can't blame them. Second, Corey is often on assignment taping his 'Chicago Kitchens'. Plus, unless something major is happening, they (and other stations too) really don't need two people. As unconventional as it may seem, having solo anchors is common place with them (whether it's @ Noon or on the weekends). Heck...my DirecTV only list Corey @ Noon and they still list Darlene as a reporter on the web site. They don't care much about being consistent about things.
-
I would say no. WMAQ is fully devoted to two things now (weather and investigations). So I think WLS (among others) may be feeling some pressure to be ready to go at a moment's notice if something happens because it's pretty clear that 'MAQ is ready and willing to go wall-to-wall with weather coverage without any hesitation, trepidation or overwhelming need. After last week's storm coverage, I feel that a line has been drawn in the sand. With that said, expect a lot of jocking amongst every station when it comes to weather.
-
The situation at WFLD is a hard one to figure out. While the issues are clearly apparent, fixing said issues seems impossible for some reason. There doesn't seem any plan to move the station forward and improve the product. The decisions (whether they are coming from the top or locally) just don't work and no ones seems to know what they are doing.
-
Very doubtful they do anything major other than the light upgrade. Some cosmetic work (update durans in weather/traffic center, etc..) is a very small possibility, but even that seems like a long shot. Honestly, I would leave the newsroom set-up as is and maybe add another stand-up element to the other side near the control room.
-
Just work on the lights is all. Nothing major.
-
Brant (WMAQ) was nearing the end of his forecast (within the 4:30 newscast) when word came down and quickly asked they bring up an updated map, so he was prepared. WBBM stayed with Judge Judy given they were minutes away from the 5P newscast. WFLD had a weather crawl.
-
Interesting. Could this be a game changer???
-
So..they hire yet another person with very little experience. It's as if they want to fail.
-
Yeah...makes you wonder why they decided to go with an outside company for the Cubs baseball opener when they clearly have both the resources and people who could create something as solid as this.
-
This was a dead end for Lewis so it makes sense she decided to head back home. Helms apparently can barely put a package together by herself much less write a cohesive sentence. Word is insiders were in shock when she was hired last year based on her serious lack of knowledge and journalistic skills. I guess WFLD management wanted to wait at least a year before they let her go to save what little face they have.
