, IIRC, predates the first-generation Scripps look, but anything suggesting that appears to have vanished from YouTube. What they replaced it with, to me, looks way cheaper and way less finessed. Notice how the lighthouse in the new one does not immediately become the Scripps logo, they just overlap for a bit. (Also, given its inexplicably reduced prominence, the lighthouse will probably be dropped outright at some point. I'll never understand certain companies' allergy to recognizable logos)

Reminds me of this:

WVMH was an obvious seller...

I think you two are going on very little there. Also, "CBS Paramount" hasn't been a thing since 2009.

The shade of blue isn't dark enough to be Michigan's.

Still looks like something TVbD would have done in 1996 to me.

Funny how they don't mention that said station was WCPO. (KENS is borderline, but I imagine it "doesn't count" because Scripps never held operational control over it)

Sinclair and Michael Eisner together? Isn't that something. -
TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

They paid said firm a lot of money to create many names. But for some reason, the Gannett people felt "Tegna" best reflected some convergence of today and tomorrow or some such pile.- 3687 replies

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

It's not necessarily the fault of those firms - the clients just tend to blow a bunch of money on "why bother" or flat-out baffling solutions, picked from what is almost certainly all manner of better/more interesting ones. "Tegna" sounds like the name a scandal-ridden insurance company would adopt to me.- 3687 replies

I'm not a huge fan of the Journal graphics, and I admit I'd be disappointed to see Scripps use them as a model for their next standardized graphics package, unless they did something to make the look a bit more appetizing to me. My dislike of them might be from the feeling that they replaced a lot of truly exemplary (also Renderon) stuff on the Journal stations and can't hold a candle to what they replaced. Renderon does great custom stuff, but when they have to go generic they do that a little TOO well (though the 2012 Scripps graphics are alright and way better than )

Last I saw of her, she was a reporter for them. She introduced segments from the studio, she was never out in the field.

Wonder why she's leaving KCNC... Also, MG sold WNEG off because of the debt they incurred buying the Outlet Four.

I think somewhere in the ASCAP repertory, one will find that KRIV commissioned The Viper V.2. -

So that's where Mike Landess ended up. I didn't know he came out of retirement.- 3687 replies

It actually closes April 1. March 25 is the date by which Scripps shareholders of record can be paid a special one-time dividend.

Scripps has two classes of stock. The Scripps family controls the more powerful class. They'd have to consciously decide they wanted to throw in the towel before Scripps were to be sold. I'd increasingly like for that to happen, and it might happen sooner than some Big Media monolith buying their other company Scripps Networks Interactive (which also has a dual-class stock structure, and has been the subject of buyout speculation for years).
-
I saw that yesterday. I really hope Scripps doesn't mess KMGH up too much. Also that 19 percent shareholder in Journal is none other than Mario Gabelli, who also holds interests in Sinclair (he was the one who pushed Fisher, in which he was a major shareholder, to sell to them) and Media General.

Why does Nexstar insist on these clunky domain names anyway? Nothing straightforward?

WFSB changed its Advantage cuts, good. They'd been using some seriously nasty ones in the recent past...

Thanh Truong is back at Gannett, I see. He used to be at KUSA; this was before the Belo acquisition.

It seems like these days, local TV logos are either bland or overwrought monstrosities. I prefer the former, but it is sad how local TV stations don't seem to commission actual memorable logos anymore.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
channel2 replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
This person certainly does. But yeah, when TV stations switch to new website or on-air graphics designs, they don't point out that it's a mandate from their corporate parents. I don't think viewers would like being told that the station they're watching is owned by some corporate behemoth that owns 40+ other stations...and it's beside the point they're trying to make.- 3687 replies
