    Thanh Truong is back at Gannett, I see. He used to be at KUSA; this was before the Belo acquisition.

    It seems like these days, local TV logos are either bland or overwrought monstrosities. I prefer the former, but it is sad how local TV stations don't seem to commission actual memorable logos anymore.

    This person certainly does. But yeah, when TV stations switch to new website or on-air graphics designs, they don't point out that it's a mandate from their corporate parents. I don't think viewers would like being told that the station they're watching is owned by some corporate behemoth that owns 40+ other stations...and it's beside the point they're trying to make.

    Considering how hideous modern local TV logos tend to be, bland logos are probably the better route...

    Oh god, the music sounds awful. Also, you just know that if they dumped the "11" they'd probably replace it with some ugly, overwrought POS.

    The current KHOU look is by Hothaus? I thought it was Giant Octopus, but upon closer inspection some of the lighting smacks of Hothaus work. Despite what I said about liking the current Gannett look, I don't actually mind Hothaus or GO stuff that much and even like some of it; it's too bad Hothaus got saddled with KHOU's ultra-tacky logo. Hoping that'll change (though, oddly, it smacks of updated 1980-90s Gannett sensibilities, as per the looks of WXIA, KARE, and KUSA)

    The version of DIN that is the most common, and the one I think Gannett uses, is FF DIN.

    I've seen people here say that their disdain for this look was because it was too simple (what they meant was: not Hothaus/GO-like enough - not shiny enough, not conventional enough for them).

    That's not Gotham, it's a lame knockoff of it. That "R" makes me shudder to imagine how nasty some of the other characters in that typeface must be!

    It's ITC Busorama. Unfortunately, some of the characters used in that logo didn't make the leap to digital type. Has anyone dug up whoever composed this WRIC theme, by the way?

    I'm much younger than you, but I do remember all of those things from Cartoon Network and Boomerang. I do have a fondness for Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera, but I did revisit Underdog recently and it doesn't hold up to me. CBS's old Saturday morning block, Cookie Jar TV, was pretty bad. The block's namesake and programmer was a Canadian outfit that cranked out cheap garbage primarily to sell to broadcasters outside of Canada and collect Canadian content tax incentives. At least one of the shows, Liberty's Kids, wasn't made by them, though; they inherited it from US-based DIC, which they bought out in 2008 (and gained the rights to program the block from). I've always loathed that one...

    Dallas...was TM Productions based there? I would have said JAM but it doesn't sound quite like them.

    It's possible that Wendy Williams could move to WJZY when WAXN's deal to air it is up. The Fox O&Os have a deal to air it and always had.

    KTVU already has a duopoly partner, KICU.

    Cookie Jar got bought out by DHX Media last year. Maybe that had something to do with it? Didn't the NBC and Telemundo O&Os used to be part of "NBC Universal Television Stations"?

    They're not hideous. They're edgy. KMGH was going to be the future of Denver news, with a hard-hitting, tabloid format. Unfortunately, it didn't catch on with us idiots and it flopped. Seriously, it's a good thing. KDVR, however, tried tabloid and was successful, though it's probably less the content and more Fox being more popular than The WB/The CW down on KWGN.
